The dark truck came to an abrupt stop right behind the white sports car parked outside.

David slammed his truck door shut so hard that the heavy sound echoed down the quiet street.

He took three massive strides up the paved walkway before stopping right beside his sobbing daughter.

His eyes swept over her wet muddy clothes and the scattered items laying in the grass.

"Maya, what on earth is going on here?" David asked with a deep trembling voice full of panic.

"Dad! She locked me out and changed every single lock on the front door!" Maya sobbed loudly.

David turned his gaze toward the porch where Brenda was standing completely frozen in absolute shock.

Her face went totally pale as she gripped the doorway with her long painted fingernails tightly.

She had not expected her husband to return home from his business trip for three more days.

"David darling, you are back so early!" Brenda gasped as she tried to force a small smile.

"Do not call me darling right now!" David roared as he marched directly up the front steps.

"Why are my daughter's clothes sitting in the wet mud on my front lawn right now?"

Brenda quickly backed up into the open foyer as David towered over her in complete anger.

"I was just trying to organize her bedroom while you were away on your trip!" Brenda lied fast.

"She got extremely dramatic and started throwing her own things down the stairs by herself!"

Maya ran up the steps behind her father and shook her head with complete indignation at once.

"That is a lie! She threatened to break mom's porcelain figures if I did not leave forever!"

David reached out and grabbed the cardboard box straight out of Brenda's nervous hands with force.

He carefully set the delicate box down on the hallway table away from any danger of falling.

"You dared to touch my late wife's personal belongings?" David whispered with pure rising fury.

"David, you do not understand the full picture here!" Brenda yelled back while pointing at Maya.

"She disrespects me every single day and tells me I am not her real mother at all!"

"She is absolutely right!" David snapped back so loudly that the hall mirror vibrated slightly.

"You are not her mother and you will never hold any real authority inside this entire household!"

Brenda stepped back against the wall as her face flushed bright red with pure embarrassment now.

"I am your legal wife and I have rights to this property!" Brenda screamed with real desperation.

"We are building a new life together and she is constantly standing in our way!"

David raised his hand to cut her off before she could speak another single toxic word today.

"She is my daughter and this house belongs to her past, present, and future forever!"

Brenda crossed her arms tightly over her chest and stared down at the polished wooden floorboards.

She realized that her clever plan to isolate Maya had backfired in the most terrible way.

"You brought this spoiled teenager into our marriage without giving me any real say!" Brenda snapped.

"I deserve respect in my own home and I will not be treated like a simple outsider!"

Maya held onto her father's leather jacket and felt the deep anger vibrating through his chest.

She had never seen her gentle father look so completely furious in her entire twelve years.

"You are the outsider here if you treat my child like trash on the street," David warned lower.

"I left you in charge of this house for four days and you ruined everything completely."

Brenda looked toward the front yard where Maya's tiny suitcase still lay soaking in the mud.

She tried to play the victim by squeezing out a few fake tears onto her cheeks fast.

"I spent all morning cleaning this entire mansion for your arrival!" Brenda whined very softly.

"And you side with a dramatic teenager who does not even appreciate anything we build!"

"You did not build anything here," David said as he pulled a thick envelope from his jacket.

"You came into this family through a short marriage contract that ends very soon!"

Brenda's eyes went wide as she stared at the official yellow document sitting in his hands.

She had no idea that David had spent his business trip meeting with a high-profile divorce lawyer.
