Chapter 1 of 6
When My Stepmother Evicted Me Father Revealed A Mind-Blowing Secret
The Lock Was Secretly Changed
Maya stood on the concrete walkway with a tiny suitcase sitting right beside her worn sneakers.
She stared up at the front door that had always welcomed her home after school every single day.
The brass key in her hand refused to turn inside the brand new lock Brenda had installed.
Brenda stood behind the glass screen with her arms folded tightly across her thick winter sweater.
Her face showed absolutely no mercy as she watched her stepdaughter struggle on the chilly porch.
Maya wiped a hot tear from her pale cheek and tried the brass handle one more time.
"Please just open the door and let me grab my mom's old coat," Maya called out softly.
"That coat belongs to this house now," Brenda shouted back through the heavy wooden frame.
"You need to turn around and leave before I call the local police department on you."
Maya could not believe that her life had completely flipped upside down in just two weeks.
Her father had gone on a long business trip across the state to handle a major lawsuit.
Brenda had waited for his black truck to leave the driveway before making her first cruel move.
She had slowly moved all of Maya's clothes down into the dark dusty basement over the weekend.
Then she hired a local locksmith to change every single exterior lock on the entire property.
"My father owns this house and he never gave you permission to do this!" Maya yelled back.
Brenda pulled the door open just a few inches so her stern voice would carry clearly outside.
"Your father has a new wife and a new future now," Brenda said with a cold laugh.
"You are just a reminder of his painful past and we need a totally clean start here."
Maya pressed her trembling hands against the cold glass pane to try and look inside the hallway.
She could see her family photo album sitting inside a black trash bag near the stairs.
Every single memory of her childhood was being erased by a woman who married for money.
Brenda had always wanted full control over the massive family estate and its entire monthly trust fund.
She saw Maya as a massive threat to the vast inheritance she planned to claim later on.
"If you do not start walking down that driveway right now, I will throw your things away!"
Maya stepped back as Brenda grabbed a heavy box full of delicate porcelain figures from the hallway.
Those figurines had belonged to Maya's mother before she passed away five long years ago today.
"Do not touch those delicate figures!" Maya screamed as her chest tightened up with deep fear.
"Watch me throw them on the hard pavement if you take one step closer to this porch!"
Brenda lifted the heavy cardboard box up high while staring straight into the young girl's eyes.
Maya froze in complete terror because she could not bear to see her mother's memories destroyed.
She backed away slowly toward the green lawn while her tears spilled over onto her winter jacket.
Brenda smiled with dark pride as she watched the young girl retreat toward the iron gate.
She thought she had finally won the long war for total ownership of the grand property.
The quiet neighborhood street remained completely silent as the sun began to dip behind the trees.
Maya felt entirely alone in the big world without any friends or family nearby to save her.
She reached into her small pocket and realized her cell phone battery was completely dead inside.
There was no way to call her father or ask the neighborhood police for any urgent help.
Brenda took a step out onto the porch and kicked Maya's small duffel bag down the steps.
The bag tumbled across the cold brick steps and landed right in a wet mud puddle.
"Pick up your trash and get out of my sight forever," Brenda barked with pure disgust.
Maya dropped down to her scraped knees to retrieve her soaked clothes from the cold mud.
She swallowed her rising anger and swore to herself that she would find a way back inside.
Suddenly the heavy sound of a loud truck engine echoed down the quiet suburban residential street.
A bright pair of headlights swept across the damp front yard and lit up the porch instantly.
Maya looked up with wide hopeful eyes as a sleek dark vehicle pulled into the driveway fast.
