Chapter 5 of 6

The Pregnant Heiress Was Pushed Down The Marble Stairs

The Hand That Struck Back

The paramedics worked quickly, placing an oxygen mask over Sarah's face and checking her pulse with steady hands. Sarah looked toward Mark, her eyes filled with fear for their baby as the medical team prepared the stretcher. Mark took a quick step forward, his dark suit cutting through the bright daylight flooding the wide room. Victoria stood near the bottom step, her chin raised high in a fake display of unearned confidence and pride. She opened her mouth to yell another insult, but Mark did not give her the chance to speak.

Mark: You have crossed the line for the very last time!

With a sudden, swift movement, Mark raised his hand and slapped Victoria forcefully right across her cheek. The loud, sharp sound echoed through the high-ceilinged foyer like a sudden gunshot in the quiet room. Victoria gasped loudly and stumbled backward two steps, clutching her red, burning cheek in utter shock. The entire crowd of high-society guests let out a collective gasp, stunned by the sudden physical confrontation. Victoria stared at Mark with wide, fearful eyes, her arrogant posture completely collapsing in an instant.

Mark: Get out from here! Never show your face here again!

Victoria: You... you actually hit me? I am calling my lawyer right now!

Detective Davies: You will not be calling anyone except your attorney from a police holding cell.

Victoria: What? On what grounds are you threatening to arrest me?

Detective Davies stepped forward, pulling a pair of shiny steel handcuffs from his heavy utility belt with purpose. He motioned to his fellow officer, who immediately grabbed Victoria's arms and pulled them firmly behind her back. Victoria began to struggle and scream, her silk green dress twisting as she fought against the firm restraint. The crowd watched with quiet satisfaction as the arrogant stepsister was brought to her knees by law enforcement. The evidence against her was overwhelming, backed by multiple eyewitnesses and high-definition security camera footage in the hall.

Detective Davies: Victoria Vance, you are under arrest for aggravated assault and attempted murder.

Victoria: This is a mistake! You do not know who my family is!

Detective Davies: You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you.

Sarah: Mark... please... come with me to the hospital...

Mark turned away from Victoria without giving her another single glance as she was led toward the police car. He rushed to the side of the stretcher as the paramedics began wheeling Sarah out the front doors. He took her cold, trembling hand into his own and kissed her forehead with deep tenderness and love. The emergency lights flashed brightly against the white columns of the mansion as the ambulance doors closed tight. The nightmare inside the foyer was finally coming to an end, but the battle for survival was just beginning.
