Chapter 1 of 6
The Pregnant Heiress Was Pushed Down The Marble Stairs
The Party Before the Storm
The large estate was lit up with bright lights as guests walked through the double doors. Sarah adjusted her light beige dress and smiled at the people walking into the grand foyer. She was seven months pregnant and felt tired, but she wanted to support her husband Mark at this important dinner. Mark stood near the large marble fireplace, talking with corporate lawyers and business investors about the family estate. He was a hardworking man who had built a strong reputation after his father passed away last winter.
Mark: Thank you all for coming tonight to celebrate our company's new project.
Sarah: You are doing a wonderful job tonight, my love.
Mark: I could not do any of this without you right by my side, Sarah.
Sarah felt a warm spark of happiness in her heart as Mark held her hand gently. However, that quiet peace did not last long because the heavy front door swung open with a loud thud. Victoria walked into the foyer, wearing a bright green silk dress that stood out against the white marble. Victoria was Mark's stepsister, and she had been bitter ever since the old will was read six months ago. The family patriarch had left the main mansion and the controlling shares of the trust fund to Mark and Sarah. Victoria had spent her entire inheritance on foolish investments and now blamed everyone else for her own financial collapse.
Victoria: Look at this grand party hosted in the house that should belong to me.
Mark: Victoria, this is not the right time or place for your drama.
Victoria: It is always the right time to talk about how you stole my future.
Sarah: Nobody stole anything from you, Victoria. Your father made his own decision.
Victoria took a step closer, her heels clicking loudly against the cold marble floor of the foyer. The guests began to whisper among themselves as the tension in the bright room grew thicker by the second. Sarah felt her baby kick softly, and she placed a protective hand over her round bump. She knew that Victoria was unpredictable when she had been drinking, but she hoped to keep the peace. Mark stepped between his stepsister and his wife, his face stern and dark with growing anger.
Mark: If you cannot control yourself, Victoria, I will have security escort you out.
Victoria: You would throw your own family into the street just to protect her?
Sarah: Mark is trying to protect this family and our future child from your bitterness.
Victoria: You think you are so sweet, Sarah, but you are just a scheming outsider.
Victoria sneered and turned on her high heel, walking toward the grand staircase that led to the upper guest rooms. Sarah sighed with relief, thinking that the uncomfortable encounter was finally over for the evening. She excused herself from Mark to go upstairs and grab a soft warm shawl from her bedroom. The stairs were wide and lined with a rich wooden railing that had been polished to perfection earlier that morning. As Sarah reached the top landing, she noticed a shadow standing near the tall arched window at the end. It was Victoria, waiting in the dim light with her arms crossed tightly over her chest.
Victoria: You really thought you could just walk past me like I am invisible?
Sarah: Victoria, please let me pass. I just want to get my coat and rest.
Victoria: You do not get to rest while I am left with nothing in my bank account.
