Chapter 2 of 6

The Pregnant Heiress Was Pushed Down The Marble Stairs

Words Spoken on the Stairs

Sarah took a slow step backward, keeping her hand firm on the smooth wooden handrail of the staircase. She could see the burning rage in Victoria's eyes, and it made her heart beat wildly in her chest. Below them, the sounds of classical music and clinking glasses continued in the busy foyer down the hall. Nobody downstairs realized that a dangerous confrontation was brewing at the top of the grand stairs. Sarah tried to stay calm because she knew that stress was bad for her pregnancy.

Sarah: The court decided the inheritance fair and square, Victoria. You had full legal representation.

Victoria: My lawyer was weak, and your family paid off everyone to get that verdict!

Sarah: That is simply not true and you know it. Your father wanted security for this house.

Victoria: My father was tricked by your soft words and fake smile during his final months!

Victoria stepped forward, blocking the passage that led toward the master bedroom at the end of the hall. Her bright green dress rustled against the wall, catching the evening light from the nearby window. Sarah looked down at the wide white stairs behind her and felt a sudden wave of panic take over. Falling from this height could be deadly for her and extremely dangerous for her unborn child. She tried to speak with a soft, steady voice to de-escalate the situation before things got worse.

Sarah: We can sit down with a divorce lawyer or estate planner tomorrow and review options.

Victoria: I do not want your pity handouts or your fake legal meetings anymore!

Sarah: Then what do you want from me right now, Victoria?

Victoria: I want my life back, and I want you out of this house forever!

Sarah took another careful step backward, but her foot caught slightly on the edge of the top step. She wobbled for a second before regaining her balance, her fingers gripping the rail until her knuckles turned white. Victoria noticed the moment of weakness and smiled a cruel, cold smile that chilled Sarah to the bone. Down below in the foyer, a server dropped a tray, creating a sharp clatter that briefly drew attention. But up on the landing, the two women were locked in a dangerous battle of wills and raw emotion.

Sarah: Please, Victoria, think about the baby. This child has done nothing to hurt you.

Victoria: That child is the reason Mark gave you total control of the family trust fund!

Sarah: The trust fund is set up to protect the whole family, including you if you cooperate!

Victoria: You ruined my life, and you are going to pay for it right now!

Victoria raised both of her hands high in the air, her face twisted in pure, unbridled fury. Sarah screamed out for help, but her voice was drowned out by the loud music playing below. Victoria took a deep breath and lunged straight toward Sarah with all the weight of her body. Sarah tried to shield her belly with her arms, but the force of the shove knocked her completely off balance. Her feet slipped off the top step, and time seemed to slow down into a horrifying nightmare.
