Chapter 5 of 6
She Hit A Four Year Old Girl At The Dinner Table
Confrontation In The Living Room
Upon hearing the attorney's sharp words over the speakerphone, Victoria completely panicked. Her smug composure vanished, replaced by wild, unhinged fear. She lunged forward to grab the phone out of Evelyn's hands, but Arthur stepped firmly between them, shielding his wife with a strong shoulder.
Arthur: Do not touch her, Victoria! You have done enough damage in this house today!
Victoria: You old fool! Give me that phone! You cannot let him call the police on me! Think of the family reputation!
Clara: You should have thought about the family reputation before you attacked my child!
Victoria turned her furious gaze toward Clara, her fists clenched so tightly her fingernails bit into her palms. She stepped closer to Clara, trying to use her height to intimidate her, but Clara did not back down a single inch. She held Lily tightly against her hip, her eyes locked onto Victoria with fierce determination.
Victoria: You planned this! You set me up! You brought that little brat down here just to provoke me so you could take everything away from Brandon and me!
Clara: Lily came down to eat dinner with her grandparents. You are the one who lost control because you cannot stand seeing anyone else happy. You are consumed by greed and hatred, Victoria.
Victoria: I am Brandon's wife! You cannot kick me out of this house! Brandon will fight you in court! He will hire the best divorce lawyer in the state and take half of everything you own!
Clara: With what money, Victoria? The trust fund agreement clearly states that any family member involved in violent criminal behavior against another beneficiary forfeits all financial rights immediately. You just signed away Brandon's entire inheritance the moment that pan left your hand.
Victoria gasped, staggering back as if she had been punched in the stomach. She looked down at her hands, trembling violently as the full consequence of her actions finally sank into her mind. Not only had she exposed herself as a child abuser on live video, but she had also completely wiped out her husband's share of the family fortune.
Outside the large glass dining room windows, distant red and blue lights began to flash against the evening sky. The loud, wailing sound of police sirens echoed through the quiet suburban street, growing closer and louder with every passing second. Emergency services were arriving, just as Attorney Henderson had promised.
Evelyn: They are here, Victoria. You brought this upon yourself.
Victoria: Clara, please! Talk to them! Tell them it was just an accident! We are family! You cannot let them arrest me!
Clara: We are not family, Victoria. Family protects children. They do not throw iron pans at them.
The front door bell rang heavily, followed by firm, loud knocks against the wooden door frame. The sound shook the dining room, signalling that the time for excuses was officially over and accountability had finally arrived at Victoria's doorstep.
