Chapter 4 of 6

His Arrogant Nephew Tried To Ruin Christmas Dinner

A Harsh Lesson in Respect

The impact of the slap sent Julian spinning sideways, his feet slipping on the polished hardwood floor beneath him. He crashed onto the floor with a heavy thud, groaning in total shock as his hands flew to his face. The ladies around the table gasped in disbelief, rising quickly to their feet as the dramatic fight ended. Julian lay on his side for a moment, staring up at the high ceiling with wide, stunned eyes. He could feel the stinging heat burning across his cheek where his uncle's hand had made contact seconds earlier. His expensive blue blazer was wrinkled, and his slicked-back hair was completely disheveled from the sudden fall. Arthur stood over him firmly, his posture straight and his hands resting comfortably at his sides. He showed no signs of physical exhaustion, his breathing perfectly steady as he looked down at his nephew. The cold authority in Arthur's gaze made Julian shrink back against the base of a heavy wooden cabinet. The smug, arrogant demeanor that Julian had carried all evening was completely shattered by one single action. Martha stood near the doorway, trembling with emotion as she watched her brother handle the dangerous situation with ease.

Julian: You... you actually hit me! I can't believe you laid a hand on me!

Uncle Arthur: Respect is earned... not demanded. Remember that next time you open your mouth in my house.

Julian: I am going to sue you for this! I will take everything you own!

Uncle Arthur: You won't sue anyone, Julian. You can't even afford your rent this month, let alone a lawyer.

Julian swallowed hard, realizing that his uncle held every single piece of leverage in their fractured relationship. He slowly pulled himself up from the floor, using the edge of the dining cabinet to steady his shaking knees. His cheeks were burning with hot embarrassment as he refused to meet the sharp eyes of his aunt. Arthur stepped closer, his shadow falling over Julian as the younger man tried to brush off his pants. There was no hatred in Arthur's face, only a stern, disappointed sorrow for what his nephew had become. He knew that Julian had been spoiled by his late father and had never faced real consequences before. Today was the first time in Julian's life that someone had held him accountable for his terrible actions. Julian took a step back, holding his hand against his swollen cheek while breathing heavily through his nose. He looked around the room, seeing only judgment and quiet disappointment on the faces of his family members. He realized that his loud bravado had failed completely, leaving him exposed as a desperate, angry fraud. Arthur pointed a single finger toward the front hallway, his voice calm, firm, and completely absolute in its command.
