Chapter 1 of 6

His Arrogant Nephew Tried To Ruin Christmas Dinner

The Uninvited Guest Arrives

The snow fell steadily outside the grand estate, coating the long driveway in a thick blanket of white. Inside, the warm glow of the fireplace filled the dining room with light. The holiday table was set with fine china, polished silverware, and silver candlesticks. Uncle Arthur stood near the head of the table, adjusting his tan suit jacket while smiling at his sister, Martha. Martha was bustling around the kitchen doorway, placing the final dishes onto the table. Everything seemed perfect for the annual family gathering, a tradition that had lasted for over thirty years. Arthur had worked hard his entire life as a successful land developer, building a quiet fortune through honest deals and long hours. He believed in family, tradition, and treating people with dignity. But this year, a shadow hung over the holiday cheer. His late brother's son, Julian, had called earlier demanding an invitation. Julian was a thirty-year-old aspiring trader who wore custom blue blazers and expensive jeans, constantly boasting about high-stakes investments and fake success. Martha had begged Arthur to let Julian join them, hoping the family atmosphere would calm the young man's bitter attitude. Arthur agreed, though he had a bad feeling about how the night would unfold. Just as Arthur poured a glass of cider, the front door slammed open with unnecessary force. Cold air rushed into the foyer, bringing Julian inside with a arrogant smirk on his face. He shook off his snow-covered coat and dropped it onto a leather armchair without a second thought. Arthur walked out to greet him, holding out a hand in a gesture of peace and welcome.

Uncle Arthur: Welcome, Julian. We are glad you could make it safely through the storm.

Julian: Yeah, whatever, Arthur. The roads were terrible, and your house is way too far out in the woods.

Uncle Arthur: It is peaceful out here. Go on into the dining room, your aunt Martha is eager to see you.

Julian brushed past his uncle without shaking his hand, walking straight toward the dining table with a dismissive grunt. Martha hurried over, her face lighting up with genuine emotion as she wrapped her nephew in a warm hug. Julian barely wrapped one arm around her before pulling away to check his gold watch. Arthur watched the interaction silently from the hallway, noting the utter lack of respect in the young man's eyes. Julian pulled out a chair near the center of the table and sat down heavily, resting his elbows on the polished wood before anyone else was seated. Martha sat across from him, trying to keep the conversation cheerful by asking about his career in the city. Julian chuckled condescendingly, taking a deep sip from his water glass while shaking his head at her simple questions. He began explaining his lifestyle in complex financial terms, clearly trying to make his aunt feel uneducated and inferior. Arthur took his place at the head of the table, his calm blue eyes watching his nephew's every movement carefully. The evening was just beginning, but the tension in the room was already thicker than the freezing air outside.
