Chapter 5 of 6

A Father Returns Home Early and Finds His Daughter Scrubbing Floors

Justice and New Beginnings

Two local police officers arrived at the front door twenty minutes later.

Mark had called them to oversee the removal of Victoria's personal belongings.

Victoria packed two large suitcases under the watchful eye of an officer.

She marched down the main staircase dragging her heavy bags behind her.

Victoria: You will regret treating me like this, Mark!

Mark: The only regret I have is letting you into our lives.

The officer opened the front door and escorted Victoria down the driveway.

She climbed into a taxi cab and sped away into the distance.

The house suddenly felt quiet, calm, and peaceful for the first time.

Mark walked over to Lily and placed a warm hand on her shoulder.

Mark: Are you okay, sweetie?

Lily: I feel like I can finally breathe again, Dad.

Mark: Me too, Lily, me too.

They spent the afternoon cleaning the kitchen together and preparing a meal.

They laughed and talked about plans for the upcoming summer vacation.

Mark promised to take a month off work to spend quality time together.

They decided to visit the ocean coast where Lily's mother used to love.

Two weeks later, the final court hearing took place at the courthouse.

The judge reviewed the evidence of financial theft provided by David.

Victoria was ordered to return every dollar she took from the accounts.

She was also placed on probation for financial fraud and unauthorized transfers.

Mark and Lily walked out of the courtroom holding hands with proud smiles.

The afternoon sun felt warm and bright against their faces as they walked.

Lily: Thank you for always protecting me, Dad.

Mark: I will always be here for you, no matter what happens.

They drove home together to start a fresh chapter filled with happiness.
