Chapter 4 of 6
A Father Returns Home Early and Finds His Daughter Scrubbing Floors
The Confrontation at Breakfast
The next morning arrived with clear sunlight shining through the tall windows.
Lily sat at the kitchen dining table eating a simple bowl of cereal.
Mark stood near the window drinking a hot mug of dark coffee.
Victoria walked into the kitchen wearing a designer silk robe and sunglasses.
She sat down across from Lily and poured herself a glass of juice.
Victoria: Good morning, everyone, I hope today is a better day.
Mark: Today is going to be a very different day, Victoria.
The front doorbell rang loudly through the high ceilings of the foyer.
Mark walked over to open the door and greeted the legal process server.
He took the thick white envelope and walked back into the kitchen area.
He dropped the white envelope onto the dining table right before Victoria.
Victoria: What is this supposed to be, Mark?
Mark: Open it and read the top page for yourself.
Victoria slid the papers out of the envelope with trembling hands.
Her eyes scanned the bold text at the top of the legal document.
Victoria: Divorce papers? You cannot be serious about this!
Mark: I am completely serious, and your time here is over.
Victoria: You are throwing away our marriage over a small misunderstanding!
Mark: mistreating my child and stealing my money is not a misunderstanding.
Victoria stood up from her chair, knocking her juice glass over completely.
Victoria: I gave up two years of my life for this family!
Mark: You used my home and my wealth for your personal gain.
Lily: You made me feel like a stranger in my own home, Victoria.
Victoria glared at Lily with anger burning in her sharp eyes.
Victoria: You ungrateful little girl, after everything I did for you!
Mark: Do not speak another word to my daughter, Victoria!
Victoria: I will contest this divorce in court and take half your estate!
Mark: The prenuptial agreement you signed protects every single asset I own.
Victoria froze as she remembered the terms of the legal agreement she signed.
Mark: You have two hours to pack your clothes and leave my property.
Victoria: Where am I supposed to go on such short notice?
Mark: That is no longer my concern or my responsibility.
