Chapter 4 of 6

When My Wealthy Husband Poured Wine On My Face At Dinner

The Unraveling Empire

At eight o'clock the next morning, Mark strolled into the sleek glass lobby of the corporate headquarters, wearing a pair of dark sunglasses to hide his swollen cheek. Elena walked beside him, wearing a flashy designer outfit and carrying an expensive purse that Mark had promised to pay for using his company card. The reception desk staff looked down nervously as the pair approached the turnstiles, avoiding eye contact with their CEO. Mark tapped his keycard against the electronic reader, expecting the green light to beep and let him through into his private elevator.

Instead, a harsh red light flashed, and a loud alarm chimed, locking the glass barrier firmly in place before he could step through. Mark tried again, slapping the card against the sensor three times in frustration while the security guard stepped out from behind the desk. Elena whined, pulling on Mark's sleeve as a couple of junior executives walked past them, whispering to each other while glancing at Mark's visible cheek bruise. Mark glared at the guard, his voice rising in anger as he demanded an explanation for why his card wasn't working.

Mark: What is wrong with these scanners? Fix this immediately, I have a board meeting in ten minutes!

Guard: I'm sorry, Mr. Davis. My screen shows that your access credentials were revoked by executive order at six this morning.

Mark: Revoked? I am the CEO of this company! Who could possibly revoke my access?

Guard: Mrs. Sarah Davis issued the order, sir. She is currently upstairs in the main boardroom with the legal team.

Elena: Mark, what is he talking about? You said you owned this building!

Mark: Get out of my way, Gary! I built this company, and no wet napkin of a wife is kicking me out!

Mark pushed past the security barrier, ignoring the guard's warnings as he stormed toward the executive express elevator. He pulled out his personal master key, jammed it into the slot, and forced the doors open before taking the lift straight to the top floor. Elena followed closely behind, looking worried for the first time as she realized the grand lifestyle she had been promised might be slipping away. The elevator doors opened with a smooth chime onto the executive penthouse floor, revealing a line of corporate lawyers holding thick stacks of legal files.

Mark shoved open the double doors of the main boardroom, ready to scream at whoever was sitting at the long mahogany table inside. Sarah was sitting at the head of the table, wearing a crisp white business suit that showed complete authority and grace. Surrounding her were five senior board members, the company's chief financial officer, and attorney Miller, who held a red pen over a stack of termination papers. Mark stopped dead in his tracks, his eyes darting from his wife to the cold, serious faces of the board members he thought were loyal to him.

Mark: What kind of circus is this, Sarah? You can't just take over my office because of a personal fight!

Attorney Miller: Take a seat, Mr. Davis. Or stay standing, it makes no difference to the court documents we are filing today.

Mark: I am the face of this brand! Without me, this company loses all its major commercial clients!

Sarah: The clients signed contracts with the trust fund, Mark, not with a man who attacks women in public dining rooms.

Elena: Mark, tell them to give you your money! I need to pay for my dress at the boutique downtown!

Sarah: Your credit cards have already been declined, Elena. You might want to return that dress before the store calls the police.

Elena's jaw dropped in terror as she pulled out her phone, checking her banking app only to find zero funds available across all shared accounts. She looked at Mark with sudden disgust, realizing that his grand claims of endless wealth were nothing more than a giant lie built on his wife's inheritance. Mark took off his sunglasses, revealing the deep red slap mark that still covered his cheek from the previous night's incident. The board members looked away, showing no sympathy for the man who had brought public disgrace upon their multi-million dollar brand.
