Chapter 1 of 6

When My Wealthy Husband Poured Wine On My Face At Dinner

The Unused Table For Three

The bright chandeliers inside the grand hall reflected off polished marble floors as servers moved gracefully between tables. Sarah sat quietly at her corner table, checking her watch every few minutes while wiping a stray speck of dust from her beige suit jacket. She had booked this table three weeks ago, hoping a calm environment would help her and Mark fix the terrible distance growing in their marriage. They had built everything together over ten long years, starting from a tiny rental apartment with barely enough cash for groceries to owning a thriving commercial real estate company. But over the last six months, Mark had changed into someone colder, someone who barely looked her in the eye when he came home late from work.

Her phone buzzed on the white tablecloth, revealing a text from her lawyer asking if she needed to review the estate documents again. Sarah tapped a quick reply saying she still believed in her husband and wanted to try talking to him first. The family business was worth millions now, and her trust fund had funded their initial purchase of three major city properties that kicked off their entire fortune. She put the phone down just as a tall, fair-skinned man stepped through the heavy glass entrance of the upscale restaurant. Mark looked impeccably dressed in a dark tailor-made suit, his jaw set in a hard line that showed no warmth or affection.

Walking right beside him was a younger woman with bright platinum hair, wearing a glittering silver dress that drew eyes from every nearby table. Mark held her waist gently, guiding her straight toward the table where Sarah sat waiting alone. Sarah felt her heart sink into her stomach as the pair stopped right at the edge of her table. The quiet chatter of the surrounding guests seemed to fade into a dull hum as Sarah gripped her cloth napkin tightly under the table. She looked up into Mark's cold blue eyes, searching for any sign of shame or hesitation, but found only pure arrogance staring back at her.

Sarah: What is the meaning of this, Mark? You said we were having a private dinner.

Mark: Things change, Sarah. Elena is joining us because she is a major part of my life now.

Elena: Oh, don't look so surprised, dear. Everyone at the country club already knows about us anyway.

Sarah: Mark, we are still legally married, and you bring your mistress to our anniversary spot?

Mark: You are just a partner on paper, Sarah. My heart hasn't belonged to you for years.

Sarah took a deep breath, trying to keep her voice steady so she wouldn't make a scene in such an expensive place. She knew that reacting emotionally would only give Mark the upper hand he was clearly looking for tonight. Her biological father had taught her never to lose her temper when dealing with ruthless business people, and Mark was behaving like a bitter competitor rather than a husband. She smoothed her skirt and leaned forward, looking Elena straight in the eyes without flinching.

Sarah: Elena, if you think his lavish gifts come from his own pocket, you are sorely mistaken.

Elena: Mark is the CEO of the biggest firm in the city! He buys me whatever I want.

Sarah: He is an employee of a trust fund that my father set up before he passed away.

Mark: Don't you dare bring your dead father's money into this to humiliate me!

Mark's face turned beet red as a few nearby diners turned their heads to watch the growing argument at the corner table. He felt his fragile ego taking a massive hit in front of his new, younger girlfriend who thought he was a self-made billionaire. The truth was burning through his pride, making him feel smaller by the second. Sarah stood her ground, her voice remaining low and sharp as she pointed at the empty chair across from her.

Sarah: Sit down or leave, Mark. But do not lie to this girl about who pays your mortgage.

Mark: You think you control me just because of some old legal documents?

Elena: Do something, Mark! Are you just going to let this boring woman speak to us like that?

Mark looked around the dining room, noticing the whispers spreading among the wealthy patrons who recognized his face from business magazines. He reached down toward the table, his hand wrapping tightly around a heavy crystal glass filled to the brim with dark red cabernet wine. Sarah didn't even have time to pull back before Mark snatched the glass into the air with a sudden, violent movement of his arm.
