Chapter 1 of 6
The Secret Hidden Behind The Locked Dallas Mansion Door
The Fractured Glass Dinner
The crystal chandelier threw bright light across the long mahogany dining table in the Dallas mansion.
Claire sat near the end of the white table cloth with her hands resting tightly in her lap.
She looked across the silver dinnerware toward her husband who stared back with absolute silence.
Mark shifted in his dark suit jacket and set his heavy glass water tumbler down with force.
The loud thud made the quiet room feel instantly cold despite the afternoon sunshine streaming in.
"You were never supposed to touch those estate papers on my desk," Mark said in a harsh whisper.
"I was looking for our tax documents like our accountant asked me to find," Claire replied softly.
"You went digging through private legal files that do not belong to you," Mark said, narrowing his eyes.
Claire felt her heart pounding fast against her ribs as she gripped her linen napkin tight.
She knew that the deed to the property was registered under a name she did not recognize.
"Why is my name missing from the house title after five years of marriage?" Claire asked clearly.
Mark stood up suddenly from his leather chair and slammed his hands onto the polished table surface.
The heavy dinner plate in front of him rattled violently against the gleaming silver silverware set.
"I built this business empire, and you will not question my decisions!" Mark shouted angrily.
Claire flinched back against the high wooden backrest of her dining chair as he leaned closer.
"You think you can just demand answers in my own home?" Mark sneered with deep rage.
He swept his hand across the table and sent a glass dish crashing down onto the floor.
The sharp sound of breaking glass echoed off the tall white walls of the bright room.
Claire stood up quickly and pulled her smartphone from her sweater pocket with shaking fingers.
"Stay right where you are, Mark," Claire said as her voice trembled with sudden fear.
Mark stepped around the corner of the long table with his dark eyes fixed on her.
"Put that phone down before you make a terrible mistake, Claire," Mark warned with a scowl.
Claire unlocked her phone screen and immediately dialed the emergency service dispatch number.
She held the speaker close to her face while keeping her distance from her husband.
"I need help at the estate on Willow Creek Drive right now," Claire spoke into the receiver.
"Tell them to cancel that call immediately!" Mark demanded while taking another aggressive step forward.
The heavy double doors of the formal dining room suddenly swung open with a loud thud.
Mark's mother, Evelyn, hurried inside with a pale face and wide eyes filled with panic.
"Claire, stop right now before you bring down everything we built!" Evelyn cried out frantically.
Claire stood her ground near the broken glass and kept the phone raised high.
