Chapter 4 of 6

A Maid Saved His Life Before He Drank The Poison

A Web of Hidden Greed

The quiet room filled with the distant sound of approaching police sirens outside.

Victoria sat frozen in the chair as the red lights flashed through the windows.

David pointed toward the spill on the tablecloth when the officers entered the room.

Two uniformed police officers walked briskly into the mansion dining hall.

Officer: We received a report regarding an attempted poisoning on this property.

David: Yes, officer, my stepmother attempted to poison my drink during dinner.

David: We have clear video evidence and the bottle she used right here.

The attorney stepped forward and handed the napkin-wrapped bottle to the officer.

Sarah stepped forward as well and held out her smartphone for them to see.

Sarah: Here is the full video recording showing her dropping the pill into his cup.

The lead officer carefully reviewed the clip while his partner stood near Victoria.

The officer nodded his head gravely as he watched the clear video footage play.

Officer: This video leaves no room for doubt about what transpired here tonight.

Officer: Ma'am, please stand up and place your hands behind your back right now.

Victoria began to cry loudly as the metal handcuffs clicked around her wrists.

Victoria: You are making a huge mistake, I am a prominent community member!

Officer: You have the right to remain silent, anything you say can be used.

The officers led Victoria away through the grand foyer toward the front doors.

The remaining guests stood up from the table in complete discomfort and silence.

David turned to face the room and spoke with a tired but firm voice.

David: Thank you all for coming, but tonight's dinner is officially over now.

The guests nodded politely and quickly made their way toward the exit doors.

Within ten minutes, the large mansion dining room became quiet and empty again.

Only David, the attorney, and Sarah remained standing in the large room.

David walked over to Sarah and looked into her tear-stained eyes with deep gratitude.

David: You risked your entire livelihood to protect my life tonight, Sarah.

Sarah: I just could not live with myself if I stayed quiet and let bad happen.

David: Most people in your position would have been too afraid to intervene.

Sarah: My mother raised me to always stand up for what is right, sir.

David reached out and took Sarah's cold hand into his warm grasp.

David: You will never have to worry about your job or money ever again.
