Chapter 1 of 6
A Maid Saved His Life Before He Drank The Poison
The Poison in the Glass
The bright chandeliers lit up the massive dining room inside the family mansion.
David smoothed the front of his black tuxedo while sitting at the head of the oak table.
He smiled warmly at the guests who had gathered for the high stakes family dinner.
The family attorney was sitting across from him with important estate documents in a leather binder.
David reached for his clear glass filled with fresh orange juice to make an opening toast.
Across the room stood Sarah, the young maid who had worked for the estate for two years.
She kept her hands clasped tightly together as her eyes stayed locked on David's drink.
Her breathing was fast and shallow because she knew what was resting inside that juice glass.
David raised the glass to his lips as the chatter around the table slowly grew quiet.
Sarah took a deep breath and stepped away from the kitchen doorway into the main dining area.
Her heart pounded against her chest with every single step she took across the hardwood floor.
She knew that stepping forward meant risking her job and her entire living situation.
Yet leaving David to take a single sip was something her conscience could never allow.
David tilted the glass slightly back as the orange liquid approached his dry lips.
Victoria watched from the end of the long table with a sharp and tense smile on her face.
She wore an expensive white dress that stood out under the bright overhead lighting.
Her fingers gripped the edge of her embroidered napkin so hard that her knuckles turned white.
She waited in complete silence for David to swallow the liquid in his hand.
Sarah broke into a full sprint across the smooth oak floor without holding back anymore.
Sarah: Stop right now, Mr. David!
David paused with the glass just inches away from his open mouth.
He turned his head in total surprise as Sarah reached out her trembling hand.
She knocked the glass backward slightly so that none of the liquid entered his mouth.
Orange juice spilled across the pristine white linen tablecloth in a huge wet puddle.
David: Sarah, what in the world is going on?
Sarah: You cannot drink that juice under any circumstances, sir.
Victoria: What is the meaning of this absolute disrespect?!
Victoria sprang up from her wooden chair with pure rage burning in her wide eyes.
She pointed a long red fingernail straight at Sarah's pale face.
Victoria: You are a simple house servant, and you just ruined our family celebration!
Sarah: I am saving his life because that drink is laced with poison!
The entire dining room went completely silent as every guest stopped breathing for a moment.
David looked down at the puddle of juice and then looked back up at the maid.
He saw genuine fear tearing through Sarah's tear-filled eyes as she stood her ground.
He knew Sarah was always honest and quiet during her time working in the house.
Victoria took two fast steps toward Sarah with her arms crossed tightly over her chest.
Victoria: You are fired as of this exact second for making up crazy lies!
Victoria: Get out of my home before I call the local police to drag you away!
Sarah: I am not going anywhere until Mr. David sees the real truth.
David put his hands firmly on the table and stood up from his heavy chair.
David: Nobody is leaving this room until I find out what is happening here.
Sarah reached deep into the pocket of her black apron with shaking fingers.
She pulled out her black smartphone and unlocked the screen with a quick tap.
Victoria's face suddenly lost all of its natural color as she saw the phone device.
She tried to reach out and snatch the phone right out of Sarah's hands.
David stepped directly between Victoria and the brave maid to protect the phone evidence.
David: Show me whatever you have on that screen right now, Sarah.
