Chapter 2 of 6

A Maid Saved His Life Before He Drank The Poison

The Maid Intervenes in Time

Sarah held the smartphone screen directly in front of David's dark eyes.

Her hand trembled slightly, but she refused to pull the device away from him.

David stared at the small screen as a short video clip began to play automatically.

The footage showed the empty dining room just twenty minutes before the formal dinner started.

In the video, a woman dressed in a white dress walked silently toward the sideboard.

She glanced around the vacant room to make sure nobody was watching her movement.

Then she pulled a small clear bottle out from the hidden zipper of her purse.

She opened the bottle and dropped a large white pill into David's juice glass.

The pill dissolved quickly into the bright orange liquid without leaving any trace behind.

David watched the short video repeat three separate times in total disbelief.

He recognized the diamond ring on the hand that dropped the pill into his glass.

It was the exact same ring that Victoria was wearing on her right hand tonight.

David: Victoria, explain to me what I am looking at on this screen.

Victoria backed away from the table as her chest heaved with heavy breaths.

Victoria: That video is completely fake and was created to ruin my good name!

Victoria: She edited that clip using AI software just to get money from you!

Sarah: I recorded that with my own camera while setting up the dessert table.

Sarah: I stood behind the hallway curtain because I felt something was wrong.

The family attorney stood up from his chair and walked closer to look too.

He put on his reading glasses and scrutinized the video recording carefully.

Attorney: This footage has full timestamp data and clear room reflections, David.

Attorney: It is a genuine live recording taken right inside this very house today.

Victoria's sharp voice cracked as panic began to take over her entire posture.

Victoria: David, you cannot trust a maid over your own stepmother!

Victoria: I have cared for this family and this estate for over fifteen years!

David: You tried to kill me in my own dining room tonight, Victoria.

David felt a cold chill run all the way down his curved spine.

He remembered how eager Victoria was for him to drink the juice right away.

She had personally brought the glass over to his seat before the guests arrived.

He had assumed it was a kind gesture to welcome him back home.

Now he realized it was a cold attempt to take his life quietly.

Sarah took a small step backward as tears rolled down her freckled cheeks.

Sarah: I was so scared to speak up, but I could not watch you die.

David: You do not ever have to apologize for saving my life, Sarah.

David: You showed more courage tonight than anyone else in this entire house.

Victoria looked around the large room, but every guest turned their heads away.

Nobody wanted to make eye contact with her after seeing that clear footage.

The atmosphere inside the grand mansion had turned completely cold and tense.

Victoria grabbed her clutch purse from the dining chair and turned toward the door.

Victoria: I do not have to stay here and endure these ridiculous false accusations!

David: You are not stepping one foot outside this house until the police arrive.

David reached into his tuxedo jacket and pulled out his own cell phone.

He quickly dialed nine-one-one while keeping his sharp eyes fixed on Victoria.
