Chapter 5 of 5
A Father Discovers The Horrific Secret Kept In His House
A New Beginning For Family
Officer Miller finished taking down Mark and Sarah's official statements inside the bright living room. The heavy suitcases Ellen had packed were opened and searched by the police as formal evidence of theft. Inside the dark fabric bags were stacks of stolen cash, bank transfer slips, and forged passport forms. Ellen had planned to escape to another country before the bank opened its doors on Monday morning.
Officer Miller: We have more than enough evidence to charge her with grand larceny and fraud.
Mark: Thank you for arriving so quickly, officer. You saved my family today.
Officer Miller: You kept a calm head under terrible pressure, sir. Take care of your son.
Sarah: We will never forget how much you helped us today, officer.
The police cruiser drove away down the quiet suburban street, taking Ellen away to face justice in court. Mark walked back inside and closed the solid oak front door, locking it securely behind him. The house was completely quiet once again, bathed in the soft warm sunlight of the late morning. Sarah sat on the soft living room sofa, rocking baby Leo gently back and forth in her arms.
Mark: How are you feeling right now, Sarah?
Sarah: My heart is still beating so fast, but I feel safe now.
Mark: I should have noticed how bitter Ellen was getting over the past few weeks.
Sarah: You were just being a good brother by giving her a place to live.
Mark: She let her anger consume everything good in her life.
Sarah looked up at Mark with unconditional love and gratitude filling her green eyes completely. She reached out her free hand and held Mark's strong fingers tightly in her warm grip. The horrible lies that almost tore their marriage apart had only made their trust stronger than ever before. They had faced a nightmare together and protected their innocent child from real danger.
Sarah: Look at him, Mark. He is fast asleep like nothing even happened.
Mark: He knows his parents will always protect him no matter what happens.
Sarah: I love you so much, Mark. Thank you for standing by me today.
Mark: I love you more than anything in this world, Sarah. Always.
Mark sat down next to his wife and wrapped his arm around her shoulders gently. Baby Leo slept peacefully wrapped in his warm white blanket, completely safe from all harm. The dark threat had been removed from their lives forever through truth and courage. As the bright sun filled the room, Mark knew their family was finally ready for a peaceful future together.
