Chapter 4 of 6
A Dallas Groom Discovers His Bride Secret At The Altar
Uncovering The Paper Trail
Within fifteen minutes, two Dallas police officers arrived at the luxury hall. They spoke quietly with David and reviewed the phone evidence, chat logs, and photos that Sarah had provided. Mark was immediately placed in handcuffs near the grand entrance, his head hanging low as guests took videos on their phones. Chloe was instructed to stay in a side room with an officer while the legal details were sorted out. The dream wedding had completely transformed into an active crime investigation scene under the bright Texas sun.
David sat in a private suite near the back of the venue with his personal attorney, Arthur Vance, who had just arrived with a briefcase full of corporate folders. Arthur laid out the financial documents on a polished oak table. He pointed to several recent wire transfer requests that had been submitted by Mark's office just two days before the wedding. Mark had been using his executive authority to set up a hidden offshore trust account registered under an anonymous company name in the Caribbean.
Arthur: If you had signed that marriage certificate today, David, those transfers would have gone through automatically.
David: How much were they trying to take out of the estate, Arthur?
Arthur: Over four million dollars from your inheritance fund, plus partial ownership of the main office building downtown.
David: It was all planned from the very beginning, wasn't it?
Arthur: Yes. Chloe had heavy debts from failed luxury retail businesses. She needed a quick bailout.
David rubbed his face with his hands, feeling a deep exhaustion settling into his bones. He realized that Chloe had never loved him for who he was as a person. She had seen him as a golden ticket to pay off her debts and secure a life of endless luxury. The expensive trips, the sweet words, and the grand promises were all part of a cold act designed to trick him into lowering his guard before the big day.
Sarah walked into the private suite softly, holding a glass of cold water for David. She set it on the table and sat in a chair across from him. David looked up and offered her a soft, tired smile. He appreciated her calm presence during the chaotic afternoon. He knew that Sarah had lost her closest friend today, but she had chosen to do the right thing despite the emotional cost.
David: Sarah, how did you find out about the offshore accounts?
Sarah: I picked up her secondary phone when it rang this morning. It was a text from Mark confirming the transfer code.
David: And you didn't hesitate to come here?
Sarah: I couldn't let her destroy your life. I saw how much you cared for her every day.
Arthur: Your quick action saved Mr. Miller from financial ruin, young lady.
The police officer walked into the room and confirmed that Mark was being transported to the central station for questioning regarding financial fraud and grand larceny charges. Chloe was also being taken in for statement recording, as her name was listed on several illegal transfer documents. David stood up, buttoned his suit jacket, and prepared to face the remaining guests in the hall to clean up the terrible situation officially.
David: It is time to clear this hall and end this nightmare once and for all.
