Chapter 3 of 6

A Dallas Groom Discovers His Bride Secret At The Altar

The Confrontation At The Altar

The security officers walked briskly up the center aisle, their black boots making sharp sounds against the bright marble floor. Guests leaned out of their seats to watch the intense scene unfold. Chloe backed into a massive arrangement of white orchids, her face red with frustration and fear. She knew that her carefully crafted plan was falling apart right before her eyes. Mark Davis, who was sitting near the back row in his tailored suit, suddenly stood up and tried to slip quietly toward the side exit doors of the venue.

Sarah: Look! Mark is trying to run away out the side door!

David: Stop him! Do not let Mark leave this building!

Two large security guards rushed across the hall, cutting off Mark's path before he could reach the heavy exit handles. Mark stopped in his tracks, turning around with a nervous laugh while pulling at his tie. His forehead was covered in a thin layer of sweat under the bright daylight flooding through the high windows. The crowd gasped as the guards escorted Mark toward the front of the altar, holding him firmly by his upper arms so he could not break free.

Mark: David, calm down man! This is all a big misunderstanding!

David: A misunderstanding? You were trying to rob my family trust fund with my fiancee!

Mark: Chloe set the whole thing up! She came to my office four months ago with a plan!

Chloe: You coward! You told me you would take care of everything!

David: Shut up! Both of you, just shut your mouths!

David's voice echoed through the high ceilings of the hall, commanding instant silence from everyone present. He walked over to Mark and looked him straight in the eyes. Mark had been David's trusted advisor for over five years, handling corporate investments, foreclosure filings, and complex real estate lawsuits. To see him turn into a cheap criminal for money was a bitter pill for David to swallow. David reached into his pocket and pulled out his own phone, unlocking it with a fast gesture.

David: I am calling my head legal counsel and the Dallas police department right now.

Chloe: David, please don't involve the police! Think about my reputation!

David: You did not think about my life or my heart when you did this!

Sarah: She wanted to drain your accounts and file for divorce within a year, David.

David held the phone to his ear as his family lawyer answered on the second ring. He explained the situation quickly and clearly, telling the attorney to freeze all corporate accounts, hold any pending transfers, and file an emergency injunction against Mark Davis. The lawyer assured David that legal teams would be at the venue within twenty minutes alongside local law enforcement officers. Chloe sank onto her knees on the marble floor, sobbing heavily into her hands, but no one in the room stepped forward to offer her comfort.

David turned his back on Chloe and looked at Sarah. He realized the incredible courage it took for Sarah to stand up in front of hundreds of wealthy people and ruin her best friend's wedding to save an innocent man. He stepped closer to Sarah and extended a genuine hand of gratitude toward her, acknowledging her honesty in the middle of a terrible mess.

David: Thank you, Sarah. You saved my entire life today.

Sarah: You are a good man, David. You didn't deserve to be destroyed by them.
