Chapter 1 of 6
A Dallas Groom Discovers His Bride Secret At The Altar
The Ring She Almost Wore
The bright Texas sun poured through the grand glass windows of the luxury hall in Dallas. White roses lined the marble floor, and soft violin music filled the warm air. Friends and family sat in comfortable rows, smiling at the happy couple standing near the altar. David Miller looked at his bride, Chloe Vance, with deep love in his eyes. He held a custom diamond ring that cost thousands of dollars. David came from a wealthy Dallas family that owned a major real estate firm and a huge family trust fund. He believed Chloe was the most gentle and honest woman he had ever met in his whole life.
Chloe stood across from him in her stunning white gown. Her eyes sparkled under the modern light fixtures. To anyone watching, this was a perfect fairytale wedding in the heart of Texas. David took a slow breath and stepped closer to slide the sparkling diamond engagement ring onto Chloe's slender finger. His hand was steady, and his heart was full of excitement about their future together. They had been planning this grand ceremony for over a year, and every single detail was designed to look royal and clean.
Suddenly, the heavy wooden double doors at the back of the grand hall slammed open with a loud thud. The sudden noise echoed off the marble walls and cut right through the soft violin music. Guest heads turned around instantly in complete confusion. A young woman rushed quickly down the center aisle, her heels clicking fast against the polished floor. It was Sarah, Chloe's best friend since high school. Her face was flushed red, and her eyes were wild with anger and desperation. She raised her right hand high in the air as she ran toward the altar.
Sarah: Stop! Don't put that ring on her!
The musician stopped playing abruptly, leaving a heavy silence in the giant room. People in the audience began to murmur loudly to one another. David froze in place, holding the ring just an inch away from Chloe's hand. He blinked in shock, turning his head slowly toward Sarah. Chloe's face turned completely pale, as if all the color had been drained out of her skin in a single second. Her hands began to shake uncontrollably, and her lip trembled.
Chloe: Sarah, what are you doing here? You are ruining my wedding day!
Sarah: I am saving a good man from a massive trap, Chloe!
David: Sarah, please lower your voice. What is the meaning of this outburst?
Sarah: She is cheating on you, David! She is lying to your face right now!
Chloe: David, no! That is a total lie! She is jealous of us! Believe me, please!
Chloe grabbed David's upper arm desperately, her long fingernails digging through his black suit jacket. Big panic tears welled up in her eyes and rolled down her cheeks, ruining her soft makeup. David stared at his bride, his heart pounding against his ribs like a heavy drum. He felt completely torn between the woman he loved and her best friend who looked utterly certain of her words. Sarah stopped right at the edge of the altar, pulling her bright smartphone out of her small purse with a fast motion.
Sarah: Look at these photos! Look at what she was doing last night!
Sarah thrust the phone screen directly toward David's face. David leaned forward slowly, his breathing stopping in his throat. On the bright screen, clear high-definition photos showed Chloe standing in a dark hotel lobby in downtown Dallas. She was kissing another man passionately, her arms wrapped tight around his neck. The man was Mark Davis, David's own chief financial officer who managed his family's corporate accounts and trust fund settlement papers. David felt as if the ground beneath his feet had suddenly split open, leaving him falling into complete darkness.
