Chapter 2 of 6

A Dallas Groom Discovers His Bride Secret At The Altar

Secrets Behind The Wealthy Veil

David stepped back slowly, breaking away from Chloe's frantic grip. The ring in his fingers felt suddenly freezing cold, like a piece of ice. He looked down at the bright smartphone screen again, staring closely at the crisp photos. There was no mistaking the faces in those pictures. Chloe was standing right next to Mark, holding a glass of wine and smiling warmly at him. Mark was the man David had trusted to handle his family estate, his real estate inheritance, and his corporate accounts. The shock was so strong that David could barely catch his breath.

David: Is this real, Chloe? Tell me the truth right now.

Chloe: David, listen to me! Those photos are fake! Sarah edited them to hurt me!

Sarah: I did not edit anything! You left your secondary phone at my house this morning, Chloe!

Chloe: You went through my personal stuff? You traitor!

Sarah: I saw the text messages popping up on the screen! You planned to take his money!

The guests in the grand hall began whispering loudly, their voices creating a buzzing noise through the warm room. David's mother sat in the front row, her hands covering her mouth in pure horror. She knew how much David had invested in this relationship, both emotionally and financially. David had recently signed legal documents preparing a generous prenup agreement that gave Chloe access to several private accounts once they were officially married. If they had signed the final marriage license today, Chloe would have gained immediate legal rights to a portion of the family assets.

David looked Chloe dead in the eyes. Her desperate tears did not look soft to him anymore; they looked fake and calculated. He remembered how Chloe had insisted on rushing the wedding date over the past two months. She had pushed hard for a fast ceremony, claiming she just wanted to start their life together as soon as possible. Now, every small piece of the puzzle was falling into place in David's mind with scary clarity.

David: Why Mark? Out of everyone in the world, why my CFO?

Chloe: David, please! Mark tricked me! He threatened me with personal secrets!

Sarah: Stop lying, Chloe! I read the chat logs! You two were planning this for six months!

David: What chat logs? What else is on that phone, Sarah?

Sarah: They were planning to transfer funds from your corporate trust fund right after the ceremony!

The words hit the room like a heavy thunderstorm. Sarah tapped the screen of the phone and opened a long text message thread between Chloe and Mark. David reached out with a trembling hand and took the phone from Sarah. He scrolled through the messages, his eyes reading the ruthless words written by the woman he thought was his soulmate. In the texts, Chloe called David naive and easy to manipulate. She discussed moving millions of dollars into an off-shore account immediately after signing the marriage settlement papers.

David felt a surge of cold anger wash over his body. The love he had felt just ten minutes ago was replaced by a sharp sense of self-preservation. He turned toward his personal security team standing near the entrance of the grand hall. He motioned for them to step closer to the altar immediately. Chloe saw the security officers moving and backed away toward the floral backdrop, her expensive gown dragging along the marble floor.

Chloe: David, don't do this! We can talk about this in private!

David: There is nothing left to talk about privately, Chloe.
