Chapter 2 of 6
A Billionaire Father Rescues His Daughter Locked Inside A Pantry
The Locked Steel Door
The tension inside the kitchen reached a boiling point as the seconds ticked away like a striking clock. Richard kept his powerful grip on the butler's collar, his knuckles white with tension and his eyes blazing with fury. Thomas gasped for breath, his aged face turning pale under the intense pressure of his master's rage. Marsha stood nearby, clutching her own hands together and letting out short, anxious breaths as she watched the dramatic confrontation unfold right in front of her.
Marsha: Please Thomas, find the master key! She has been in there for so long!
Butler: I am pulling it out right now, ma'am!
With trembling fingers clad in formal white gloves, the old butler reached deep into his jacket pocket and pulled out a heavy silver brass key attached to a ring. His hands shook so violently that he nearly dropped the precious key onto the floor. Richard let go of the man's collar with a stern shove, stepping back just enough to allow the butler to reach the keyhole. Thomas stumbled forward toward the heavy deadbolt, trying twice to fit the key into the small slot before finally sliding it all the way in.
SFX: Key turning, lock clicking.
The heavy mechanical lock gave a sharp, metallic click that echoed through the sudden silence of the kitchen. Richard did not wait another second. He grabbed the heavy steel handle, pulled it back with all his physical strength, and yanked the security door open. The thick metal door swung outward with a long, ominous creak, exposing the dark, cold interior of the windowless storage pantry. Cold air rushed out into the warm kitchen, carrying a strange, dusty smell that made Richard's stomach churn with worry.
Inside the dark room, sitting on a hard wooden crate near the back wall, was little Lily. The six-year-old girl was curled up in a tiny ball, wearing her light blue dress that was now wrinkled and slightly smudged with dust. She was holding her favorite brown teddy bear tightly against her chest with one hand while clutching a small, half-empty water bottle with the other. The small room was completely dark except for the bright rectangle of kitchen light that now flooded over her tiny frame.
Richard: Lily! Oh my sweet girl!
SFX: Soft sobbing.
The little girl blinked against the sudden harsh light, her big brown eyes filled with tears that spilled over her pale cheeks. She looked up at her father with a expression of pure relief and overwhelming fear. Her small shoulders shook with soft, quiet sobs as she raised her tiny arms toward the doorway. She had been sitting alone in the freezing dark for hours, surrounded by boxes and silence, terrified that no one was ever coming to save her from the cold room.
Richard dropped directly onto his knees on the hard floor without caring about his suit trousers. He reached out and wrapped his powerful arms tightly around his daughter, lifting her up from the crate and pulling her close against his chest. He buried his face in her soft hair, feeling her tiny heart pounding rapidly against his ribs like a caught bird. Lily buried her wet face into her father's shoulder, her small hands clutching tightly to his expensive jacket as if she would never let go again.
Richard: Daddy's here... You're safe now. No one will ever hurt you again.
Little Lily: Daddy, it was so dark... I called for you, but nobody opened the door.
Richard: I know baby, I am so sorry. Daddy is right here now.
Richard lifted his head while still holding his crying daughter securely in his arms. He turned his head slowly and directed a fierce, blazing glare toward the butler, who was backing away slowly into the corner of the kitchen. Marsha stepped forward with a handkerchief in her hand, reaching out to touch Lily's head with a look of deep sympathy on her face, but Richard pulled his daughter slightly away from everyone in the room. He could feel in his gut that something deeply wrong had happened inside his house while he was away.
Richard: How did she get locked inside a security pantry, Thomas? Speak right now!
Butler: Sir, it must have been an accident... The door swings shut heavily on its own!
Richard: An accident? This deadbolt requires a key to lock from the outside!
