Chapter 2 of 5

Woman Rips Bride Dress And Discovers Missing Child Identity

The Green Jade Necklace

Evelyn clutched the green stone tight against her chest while tears streamed down her cheeks, ruining her neat makeup. She looked up slowly at Sarah with eyes filled with immense sadness and profound shock. The cold anger that had defined her face for months was completely gone, replaced by pure heartbreak. Mark stepped forward, placing his body partially between his mother and his crying bride. He looked down at Evelyn with deep concern and rising frustration, demanding an immediate answer for her unbelievable behavior.

Mark: Mother, you need to explain yourself! Why did you tear her dress like that?

Evelyn: Look at her back, Mark! Look at the jade necklace on the floor!

Sarah: Don't touch my necklace! That belonged to my late mother!

Evelyn: My baby... you are my little Grace!

Sarah backed away two steps, clutching her torn dress tightly against her chest to cover her front. She looked at Evelyn with pure anger and confusion, her throat tight with overwhelming emotion. Sarah had been raised in an orphanage in downtown Chicago after being found alone in a station at four years old. The only thing she carried from her early childhood was that small jade pendant necklace. She had guarded it with her life, wearing it through years of foster care and struggle. Hearing Mark's cold mother call her by a completely different name made her stomach turn in knots.

Sarah: Stop lying to me! My name is Sarah, and you have treated me like trash for a whole year!

Evelyn: I am not lying to you! I bought this exact jade necklace in San Francisco twenty-four years ago!

Mark: Mother, what are you talking about? You said my older sister died in a hospital!

Evelyn: That was what your father told everyone! He lied to me for two decades!

Evelyn slowly rose to her feet, her hands still shaking as she held out the green jade stone toward Sarah. She carefully reached out her thumb, pointing gently toward the butterfly mark on Sarah's back. Evelyn began to explain how her firstborn daughter had gone missing twenty years ago during a bitter separation with her late husband. Her husband had claimed the child died from a sudden illness while out of town, presenting fake hospital records to cover his dark actions. Evelyn had spent years grieving her lost little girl, never knowing the tragic truth behind her husband's terrible lies.

The guests in the front pews began to whisper loudly among themselves as the dark family secret began to unravel in public. Mark stared at his mother in utter disbelief, his grip on Sarah loosening slightly as the reality hit him. Sarah felt her chest rising and falling quickly as her mind raced to process the wild claims. She remembered small fragments of a warm house and a soft voice singing to her before she ended up in the foster care system. The butterfly birthmark on her back was extremely unique, shaped with two perfectly distinct wing patterns that no surgeon could recreate.

Sarah: If you are my mother... why did you hate me so much when Mark brought me home?

Evelyn: Because I was blind and arrogant! I thought you were trying to take my family's money!

Mark: We need to stop this wedding right now and figure out what is real!

Sarah: No! I am not stopping anything until I get the full truth from both of you!

Sarah took a deep breath, stepping back onto the center carpet of the altar despite her ruined lace dress. She demanded to know why Evelyn's late husband would ever give away a child to an orphanage. Evelyn wiped her face with the back of her sleeve, her posture broken by deep regret. She admitted that her late husband was deeply involved in illegal financial deals and wanted to cut all ties to his original family before filing for bankruptcy. He had hidden the child away to protect his stolen assets from a massive federal lawsuit.
