Chapter 4 of 5

The Rich Groom Slapped Me Before Checking The Trash

Regret Comes Too Late

Within minutes, two sharp black-and-white police cruisers pulled up onto the manicured grass near the main reception patio area. Two uniform officers stepped out quickly, their eyes scanning the nervous crowd until they spotted Elena holding her swollen cheek. The lead officer, a stern woman named Officer Davis, walked directly over to Elena and asked what had taken place. Elena calmly explained every detail, pointing to the trash bin with the insect and showing the fresh red bruise on her face. The officer took down notes carefully while her partner walked over to question Carter, who stood shaking nearby.

Officer Davis: Did this man strike you with an open hand across your facial area?

Elena: Yes, ma'am, he hit me hard before I could even finish explaining the insect situation.

Officer Davis: Are there any witnesses who saw the physical strike happen clearly?

Manager: I saw it happen from the buffet line, officer. He hit her without warning.

Guest: I saw it too. He was shouting at her about food cost and then he slapped her.

Officer Davis turned toward Carter, her face cold and serious as she reached for the metal handcuffs on her belt. Carter’s father tried to step between them, offering his corporate legal team's credentials, but the officer held up her hand. Wealth and power meant nothing in this clear moment of domestic assault against an innocent worker doing her assigned duties. Carter looked at his bride, who stepped backward away from him, shaking her head in complete disbelief and total shame. His dream wedding day was turning into a horrific public arrest that would headline the evening local news broadcasts.

Carter: Officer, please, I apologized to her! I offered to cover all her expenses!

Officer Davis: Apologies do not undo a physical assault, sir. Turn around and put your hands behind your back.

Carter: Elena, please tell them not to do this! I will give you anything you want!

Elena: I only want justice, Mr. Miller. You need to learn that you cannot hit people.

Carter: I am so truly sorry for hurting you... I was a complete monster today.

The metallic click of the handcuffs closing around Carter’s wrists echoed loudly across the silent, sunny garden reception area. Guests pulled out their smartphones, secretly taking photos and recording videos of the powerful billionaire heir being led away in cuffs. His bride turned away, wiping tears of embarrassment from her eyes as she walked toward the safety of the main mansion. Carter hung his head low, his face pale with utter defeat and intense regret as the officer guided him into the back seat. He looked out the tinted window at Elena one last time, seeing only quiet strength standing firm on the lawn.

Father: We will post bail immediately, Carter! Get our family lawyer on the phone right now!

Manager: Are you going to be okay, Elena? We can get you to an urgent care clinic right away.

Elena: I will be okay, thank you. My cheek hurts, but my pride is completely intact.

Manager: You handled yourself with incredible courage today. You saved this company from a huge health law issue.

Elena: I just did my job. It is a shame he did not know how to do his.

The police car drove slowly down the long estate driveway, its bright red and blue lights flashing against the green hedges. Elena walked over to her personal bag, taking out a cold water bottle to press gently against her sore, throbbing cheek. The rest of the catering staff gathered around her, offering warm hugs and soft words of genuine support for her braveness. She knew the coming days would involve legal meetings and court dates, but she was not afraid of the battle ahead. She had stood up for herself against a powerful man, proving that truth always matters more than wealth or social status.
