Chapter 5 of 6

She Humiliated His Poor Mother Until The Shocking Deed Appeared

Facing The Big Mistake

Claire walked back into the dining room with slow, cautious footsteps and a pale face.

The family was still sitting together at the big table, laughing and drinking tea.

Mark saw her walking toward them and stood up to block her path directly.

Mark: I told you to wait outside in the car, Claire.

Claire: Mark, please, I need to talk to your mother right now.

Mark: You have said more than enough to my mother for one lifetime.

Claire looked past Mark's shoulder at Evelyn, who sat watching her calmly from her chair.

The arrogant posture Claire always carried was completely gone from her shaking body.

Claire: Evelyn, I... I did not know about the land trust or the estate ownership.

Evelyn: That is very clear, Claire.

Evelyn: You only care about showing respect when you think someone has high status or money.

Claire: No, that is not true, I was just tired and stressed from the long drive!

Mark: Stop making fake excuses, Claire!

Mark pulled a small leather folder out of his jacket pocket and set it down hard.

Mark: I called my divorce lawyer five minutes ago while you were out in the hall.

Claire's eyes widened in horror as she looked at her husband in total shock.

Claire: Divorce? Mark, you cannot end our marriage over a simple misunderstanding!

Mark: This is not a misunderstanding, Claire.

Mark: This showed me who you truly are on the inside when nobody is watching.

Mark: You treat people with lower income like they are lesser human beings on earth.

Claire: I will change, Mark, I swear I will apologize to your mother every day!

Evelyn: You do not need to apologize to me for my money, Claire.

Evelyn: You should have respected me simply because I am a human being and Mark's mother.

The relatives at the table looked away in silent agreement with Evelyn's strong words.

Claire felt completely isolated and helpless as her high-class world collapsed around her feet.
