Chapter 3 of 6
She Humiliated His Poor Mother Until The Shocking Deed Appeared
A Secret Kept For Years
Claire stood up quickly, clutching her leather purse tightly against her ribs.
She glared around the quiet dining room at the staring faces of her relatives.
Claire: Fine, I will wait in the car while you calm down from your drama.
She turned on her heel and marched angrily toward the main grand entrance doors.
Mark took a deep breath and turned toward his mother with a softer expression.
Mark: Mom, I am so deeply sorry for her terrible behavior toward you.
Evelyn placed her hand over his trembling arm with a gentle squeeze.
Evelyn: Sit down, son, and let us finish our meal in peace first.
Mark: But what did you mean by that comment about the resort owner?
Evelyn sighed softly as she reached into her large canvas handbag on the floor.
She pulled out a thick yellow paper envelope tied with a dark blue ribbon.
The entire family leaned forward with intense curiosity in their eyes.
Evelyn: Your grandfather bought this land seventy years ago when it was just dirt.
Mark stared at his mother in complete disbelief as he listened to her words.
Mark: Grandfather owned this coastal property on the ocean side?
Evelyn: He bought fifty acres along the coastline after coming home from the war.
Evelyn: When he passed away, the land deed was placed into a private family trust.
She opened the envelope carefully and pulled out official legal documents with gold stamps.
Evelyn: I never talked about it because money creates greed and division among people.
She pointed toward the elegant logo printed at the top of the crisp white parchment.
Evelyn: The resort developer leases this land from my foundation on a fifty-year contract.
Mark read the black letters on the official legal document over and over again.
His mother was not a poor retired woman living on a tiny fixed pension.
She was the sole legal owner of the prime real estate beneath their feet.
The monthly lease payment from the luxury hotel corporation was staggering to comprehend.
Mark: Mom, why did you live so simply all these years if you had this estate?
Evelyn: Fancy clothes and big houses do not make a person good or honest, Mark.
Evelyn: I wanted you to grow up humble and learn the value of real honest work.
Mark felt a heavy lump form in his throat as tears filled his eyes.
He realized his mother had sacrificed her own luxury just to teach him true character.
And his wife had just thrown the ultimate insult at the woman who owned everything.
