Chapter 2 of 6
She Humiliated His Poor Mother Until The Shocking Deed Appeared
Words That Crossed The Line
The serving staff brought out the grand main course platters twenty minutes later.
Plates filled with poached eggs, smoked salmon, and hot pastries covered the table.
Everyone began filling their plates while chatting happily about the sunny weather forecast.
Evelyn reached out carefully for a small slice of toast from the bread basket.
Claire watched her mother-in-law's every move with growing visible disgust.
She shook her head softly and let out a loud, dramatic sigh for everyone to hear.
Claire: Honestly, some people just do not know basic table manners.
The lively conversation at the big family table suddenly ground to a complete halt.
Mark dropped his silver fork onto his plate with a sharp metal clatter.
Mark: What is your problem today, Claire?
Claire: I just think standards should be maintained in five-star establishments.
Evelyn kept her eyes fixed on her white napkin resting in her lap.
Her hands trembled slightly as she tried to keep her composure in front of the children.
Evelyn: It is fine, Mark, do not start an argument on my account.
Claire: See, even she knows she does not belong in a place like this.
Claire pointed her long polished fingernail right across the wide white table cloth.
Claire: The help does not eat with family at a luxury table.
A heavy, uncomfortable silence fell across the entire sunlit dining room.
Guests at nearby tables turned their heads around to see what was happening.
Mark's face turned completely red with overwhelming anger and deep shame.
He looked at his wife like he was seeing a complete stranger for the very first time.
Evelyn slowly raised her chin up and looked directly into Claire's cold eyes.
There was no fear or sadness in the older woman's quiet, steady gaze.
Evelyn: Funny, because the help actually owns this entire resort property.
Claire burst out into a cruel, loud laugh that echoed off the high ceilings.
Claire: You expect anyone in this room to believe that ridiculous fairy tale?
Claire: You live in a tiny two-bedroom house near the railroad tracks.
Mark stood up so fast his heavy wooden chair crashed onto the hard oak floor.
The loud bang made several people in the restaurant jump in surprise.
Mark: Claire, shut your mouth right now!
He slammed his palm down onto the table with tremendous force.
Mark: You have embarrassed me and insulted my family for the last time today!
Claire gasped in shock as her face paled under the bright restaurant lights.
Claire: How dare you raise your voice at me in front of everyone!
Mark: You are leaving this room immediately before I lose my mind!
