Chapter 5 of 5

She Crawled Toward The Button Before Her Husband Realized Everything

Justice Served Cold

The officers hauled Reed up by his arms, dragging his kicking and screaming body straight out through the shattered glass doors toward the waiting police vehicles outside. Two other agents stepped up to Chloe, snapping handcuffs on her wrists as she broke down into loud, hysterical sobs, pleading for mercy that nobody in the room was willing to give her.

Evelyn walked slowly across the wide marble hall, her high heels clicking firmly against the stone. She stopped beside the shattered crystal glass on the floor, kicking a jagged piece out of her path before kneeling down tenderly right beside Marion. Evelyn reached out her warm, strong hand and placed it gently on Marion's trembling shoulder, pulling her up into a protective embrace.

Evelyn: I'd never let them destroy you, sweetie. You are safe now. It is finally over.

Marion: Aunt Evelyn... I thought... I was all alone in this...

Evelyn: You were never alone, Marion. The medical team is right outside with the antidote. The doctors have known about the toxin for three days, and they have the exact counter-medication ready to clear your system completely.

Two paramedics rushed into the mansion carrying medical equipment bags and a comfortable emergency stretcher. They carefully lifted Marion off the hard floor, placing her gently onto the stretcher while administer an IV line filled with clean fluids and neutralizing medicine. Within minutes of receiving the treatment, the terrifying burning sensation in Marion's chest began to fade, replaced by a cool, soothing wave of comfort that allowed her to breathe deeply for the first time in months.

Paramedic: Her vitals are stabilizing quickly, ma'am. The paralysis will wear off completely within forty-eight hours once the toxins are fully flushed out.

Evelyn: Thank god. Take her to the private wing at the hospital under full security guard.

Marion: What... what happens to the estate now, Evelyn?

Evelyn: The estate is entirely safe, my dear. The divorce lawyers have already filed the paperwork to strip Reed of every single asset, every bank account, and every car he ever touched with your money. He will spend the rest of his life inside a federal prison cell where he belongs.

As the paramedics wheeled Marion out through the front doors into the warm afternoon sunshine, she looked back one last time at the grand mansion. The cold marble floor that had almost become her grave was now clean of Reed's presence. She saw Reed being forced into the back of a black police cruiser in heavy chains, his face twisted in utter defeat as news cameras from local reporting vans began flashing their bright lights across the driveway.

Marion let out a long, peaceful breath, feeling the heavy weight of fear lift off her shoulders completely. She knew the road to physical recovery would take time, but the dark shadow of betrayal had finally been destroyed by the truth. She was free, her life was her own again, and justice had been delivered in full measure under the bright light of day.
