Chapter 2 of 5
Arrogant Salesman Slaps Poor Man Who Turns Out To Be Owner
A Sudden Moment Of Violence
The ambient luxury store music played softly in the background as the tension peaked. Other wealthy shoppers paused near the sapphire display cases, murmuring quietly among themselves. Sarah took a small step forward behind the main desk, feeling an uncomfortable knot in her stomach. She knew Chad had a explosive temper, but she never expected what happened next.
Chad reached out and grabbed Arthur by the lapel of his old brown coat, pulling him close. Arthur remained calm, looking directly at the young man without panic. Chad snapped. Raising his right hand, Chad delivered a sharp, violent slap across the elderly man's cheek. The loud crack echoed loudly across the wide, marble-paved sales floor, silencing the entire room.
Chad: GET OUT OF HERE! YOU CAN'T AFFORD ANYTHING IN THIS ENTIRE STORE!
Arthur's head turned from the impact, and a red handprint immediately began to form on his face. The force of the strike rattled his thin frame, but he held his ground. He didn't fall or cry out in pain. Instead, he brought a weathered hand up to touch his burning cheek softly, taking a deep breath to settle his composure.
Sarah gasped in sheer horror from behind the display counter, dropping her tablet onto the floor. Several high-profile clients covered their mouths in disbelief at the sudden act of violence. Striking a customer, regardless of their appearance, was a massive crime and violation of company policy. Chad stood chest out, breathing heavily, convinced he had asserted control over the situation.
Sarah: Chad! What is wrong with you? Are you completely crazy?
Chad: Shut up, Sarah! I am keeping this store clean from bums and vagrants!
Arthur: You rely heavily on physical violence when you feel threatened, don't you?
Chad: Shut your mouth, old man! Take another step toward the door or I'll throw you out myself!
Arthur slowly lowered his hand from his bruised cheek. He showed no fear, anger, or hatred in his eyes. His posture shifted, throwing off the gentle look he carried earlier. The simple elderly man vanished, replaced by an unmistakable air of absolute authority. He reached into the inner pocket of his heavy brown coat, his movements smooth and deliberately slow.
Chad watched Arthur's hand move inside the coat pocket, suddenly feeling a cold shudder along his spine. For a brief second, he wondered if the old man was reaching for a phone to call the police. But Arthur didn't pull out a phone or a weapon. He pulled out a black leather card holder bound in gold foil trim.
