Chapter 4 of 6

A Torn Dress Uncovered The Truth About Her Lost Inheritance

A Truth Hidden For Years

The older man walked forward with a firm, confident step, holding a leather briefcase tightly under his right arm. He had graying hair at his temples and wore thin silver spectacles that gave him an authoritative, intelligent look. Sarah recognized him instantly as Mr. Harrison, her late father's long-time corporate lawyer and trusted family friend. Mr. Harrison had spent two full years searching for Sarah after she vanished from her father's estate without a word. Victoria's eyes widened in sudden fear as she saw the lawyer walking directly toward them across the bright floor.

Mr. Harrison: Stop right there, Victoria. You will not throw anyone out today.

Victoria: Mr. Harrison? This is a private family matter! Leave us alone!

Mr. Harrison: It became a legal matter the moment you filed those fake estate papers five years ago.

Sarah: What are you talking about, Mr. Harrison?

Mr. Harrison: I have been looking for you everywhere, Sarah. Your father never forgot you.

Mr. Harrison placed his heavy briefcase on a nearby round table and unlatched the silver metal snaps with a sharp click. He opened the leather folder and pulled out a thick stack of white legal papers sealed with a gold stamp. The entire ballroom fell into complete silence as everyone turned their full attention to the attorney standing near Sarah. Victoria stepped back, her hands beginning to shake as she stared at the official papers in Mr. Harrison's hands. She tried to say something, but her throat went completely dry under the bright lights.

Mr. Harrison: Before your father passed away, he created a secret living trust fund for his real clothing business.

Victoria: That trust paper was canceled! I have the signed house deed in my name!

Mr. Harrison: The deed you signed was proven to be a fake document in county court yesterday afternoon.

Sarah: My father really left something behind for me?

Mr. Harrison: He left you everything, Sarah. The estate, the mansion, and the entire family business.

Sarah gasped, covering her mouth with both trembling hands as hot tears spilled over her freckled cheeks. She had spent five long years believing her father had forgotten her before he passed away in his sleep. Hearing that her father had loved her enough to protect her future gave her a sense of peace she had never felt before. Meanwhile, Victoria looked like she was about to faint right onto the hard oak floor in front of everyone.
