Chapter 2 of 6

A Torn Dress Uncovered The Truth About Her Lost Inheritance

Needles And Forgotten Promises

The needle clicked rhythmically against Sarah's small silver thimble as she pulled the strong white thread through the silk. She moved with absolute precision, stitching tiny hidden knots along the inner lining so no raw edges would show outside. The quiet sound of thread pulling through smooth cloth was the only noise in the huge, bright room. Guests crowded in a circle around them, leaning forward with curious eyes as they watched Sarah save the ruined dress. The bride breathed out a long, shaky sigh, slowly calming down as she felt the tear coming back together securely.

As Sarah worked on her knees, she felt a pair of cold, angry eyes watching her from across the circle. Standing near the head table was Victoria, a tall woman dressed in an expensive green designer dress and sparkling diamonds. Victoria was Sarah's former stepmother, the woman who had kicked Sarah out of her childhood home five years ago. After Sarah's father passed away, Victoria had taken complete control of the family business, the massive house, and all the bank accounts. She had told everyone in town that Sarah was irresponsible and had run away from home willingly.

In reality, Victoria had changed the lock on the front door and threatened to call the police if Sarah ever returned. Sarah had been forced to sleep in her old car for two weeks before finding a small basement room. She had survived by taking odd jobs at tailoring shops, cleaning houses, and working events at this grand ballroom. Seeing Victoria standing there in expensive jewels made Sarah's heart ache with deep memory, but she kept her eyes down. Sarah focused all her energy on the needle in her fingers, refusing to let her painful past ruin her focus now.

With three swift, tight stitches, Sarah tied off the strong thread and cut the end neatly with tiny scissors. She smoothed down the white silk with her warm palms, carefully brushing away any small stray threads from the fabric. The back seam was completely restored, looking just as clean and perfect as the moment the dress was made. Sarah stood up slowly, smoothing her simple gray apron, and smiled gently at the nervous young bride in front of her.

Sarah: All done! Good as new!

Bride: Oh my goodness! It looks like nothing ever happened to it!

Sarah: You look beautiful. Go enjoy your special party now.

The bride turned around in a slow circle, inspecting the back seam in a big silver mirror nearby. When she saw how perfect the repair looked under the bright ceiling lights, tears of joy filled her eyes. She reached out and pulled Sarah into a warm, tight hug right in front of the entire crowd. The surrounding guests erupted into loud, thunderous applause, clapping their hands enthusiastically for the brave young seamstress. But Victoria walked over quickly, her expensive high heels clicking sharply against the oak floor, her face twisted in pure anger.
