Chapter 3 of 5
A Greedy Bride Framed The Maid But A Child Saved Her
The Unseen Small Witness
Standing near the velvet curtains at the edge of the dressing room was seven-year-old Lily, David's little niece. Lily was wearing a bright yellow flower-girl dress, her curly hair tied up with a white ribbon. While the adults were busy drinking champagne and taking photos earlier, Lily had been playing hide-and-seek behind the long drapes, holding her mother's spare smartphone to record silly videos of her flower basket. No one in the crowded room had paid any attention to the quiet child sitting in the corner, assuming she was just playing with a toy.
Lily had seen everything through the gap in the heavy curtains. She had watched Sarah look around nervously, lift the heavy diamond necklace from the vanity, and secretly drop it into Clara's apron pocket while the maid was bent over cleaning. Lily had felt her little heart beat fast with fear as the bride suddenly started shouting and blaming the sweet maid who had given her a cookie just one hour earlier. Unlike the adults who were easily swayed by Sarah's dramatic tears, the little girl knew exactly who was telling the truth and who was telling a terrible lie.
Lily squeezed her small phone tightly in her hands, stepping out from behind the velvet curtains with bold, determined steps. She walked right past the group of wealthy guests, past the whispered insults, and stood directly in front of her uncle David and the furious bride. Her small sneakers made a soft quiet sound on the hardwood floor, but her posture was straight and completely fearless. Clara looked up from the floor through her tears, staring at the little child who had stepped into the middle of the heated confrontation.
Lily: I KNOW THE TRUTH! SHE'S LYING!
Sarah: What are you talking about, Lily? Go back to your mother right now!
Lily: No! You are a liar! Clara didn't steal your shiny necklace!
Sarah: David, control your niece! She doesn't know what she is saying, she's just a confused kid!
Lily: I am not confused! You put it in her pocket yourself while she was fixing the floor!
The room went dead silent as the guests gasped at the little girl's fierce declaration. Sarah's face flushed with sudden, hot anger, her fake tears vanishing instantly to reveal a cold, venomous glare. She took a step toward the little girl, her hands clenching into tight fists as her carefully crafted cover story began to fall apart right in front of her future husband and his entire wealthy family. She could not let a seven-year-old child ruin her chance at marrying into millions of dollars, no matter what it took to shut the child up instantly.
Sarah: SHUT UP, YOU LITTLE BRAT!
Before anyone in the room could react or step in, Sarah stepped forward quickly and forcefully slapped the little girl straight across her cheek. The sharp, loud impact echoed through the high-ceilinged room like a gunshot, throwing Lily's head to the side. The crowd gasped in absolute horror as the bride openly hit a child in front of dozens of high-society witnesses. David's eyes widened in total disbelief, his jaw dropping open as he watched his bride lose her mind over a little girl's honest words.
David: SARAH! DID YOU JUST HIT MY NIECE?!
Sarah: She's lying about me! She needs to learn to respect her elders!
