Chapter 3 of 5
A Father Discovers His Wife's Secret Behind The Wall
Confronting The Hidden Secret
The wooden bookshelf swung outward with a loud groan of metal hinges and scraping wood.
A hidden doorway opened up to reveal the narrow dimly lit room tucked behind the drywall.
Sarah spun around instantly on her stool and dropped the mobile phone onto the floor.
Her face turned completely pale as her eyes locked directly onto her angry husband.
The black leather duffel bag sat wide open on the desk right between them both.
Stacks of cash were scattered across the table in plain view of the open doorway.
Mark stood in the opening with his hands clenched firmly into tight trembling fists.
Mark: Get out of that room right now!
Sarah scrambled up from the stool and reached out toward him with both hands shaking.
Sarah: I can explain!
Mark: You lied to us this entire time!
Toby peaked out from behind Mark's legs and looked at his mother with confusion.
Sarah saw her young son watching and quickly pulled her hands back toward her chest.
Sarah: Mark, please do not do this in front of Toby right now.
Mark: You brought this into our house behind my back for months!
Mark pushed the hidden door wide open so the bright hallway sunlight flooded the small room.
The secret space was filled with rows of locked file cabinets and sealed legal boxes.
He stepped inside and grabbed one of the folders labeled with his late uncle's name.
He opened the tab and saw legal documents showing a massive trust fund payout from months ago.
Sarah had diverted the entire inheritance into a private bank account under her own name.
She had been slowly withdrawing cash to hide it away inside this secret hidden wall room.
Mark felt a wave of absolute disgust wash over him as he tossed the folder down.
Mark: This money belonged to the family estate to pay off our home and secure Toby's future.
Sarah: I was trying to protect our family from taking risks!
Mark: You were stealing from your own husband and son while lying to my face!
Sarah stepped backward until her back hit the solid wood of the small desk.
She looked down at the pile of hundred-dollar bills as tears began filling her eyes.
Sarah: You don't understand how much pressure I was feeling every single day.
Mark: Pressure does not give you permission to betray the people who trust you most.
Mark turned back around and picked up Toby into his arms to shield him away.
He walked out of the narrow space and stepped back into the bright hallway floor.
He looked back at Sarah with cold eyes that carried no remaining warmth or affection.
Mark: Pack a bag and leave this house before I call the authorities right now.
