Chapter 1 of 5
A Father Discovers His Wife's Secret Behind The Wall
A Strange Sound In Hallway
Mark walked down the hallway of his suburban house after finishing his morning coffee.
The sunlight poured through the front windows and brightened the polished hardwood floors.
Everything about the morning felt completely normal until he noticed his young son on the floor.
Seven-year-old Toby was crawling quietly along the wall near the back of the stairs.
The little boy kept his face low to the ground as if he was tracking something small.
Mark smiled briefly because he assumed his son was playing a game with his toy cars.
He stepped closer and saw Toby pressing his right ear flat against the wooden trim.
The boy held one tiny finger up to his lips to signal for quiet.
Mark stopped in his tracks and let out a light laugh as he adjusted his shirt.
Mark: What are you doing down here, son?
Toby jumped slightly at the sound of his father's voice and turned his head around quickly.
His large blue eyes were filled with genuine confusion and a small hint of fear.
Toby: Daddy, listen. There is a strange voice coming from inside here.
Mark dropped his warm smile as he looked down at the tiny hole in the wall.
The house was old but the family had spent thousands of dollars renovating the place last year.
He had personally inspected every single inch of the drywall before painting it bright white.
There was no reason for any sound to come from inside a solid structural interior wall.
Mark crouched down next to Toby and placed a steady hand on the boy's small shoulder.
He slowly leaned his head down toward the dusty dark hole near the baseboard trim.
At first he heard nothing except the quiet ticking of the grandfather clock in the living room.
He was about to stand back up and tell Toby that his imagination was running wild.
Then a low muffled sound broke through the quiet silence of the empty hallway.
It sounded like someone whispering rapidly into a mobile phone just inches away from his face.
Mark narrowed his eyes and pressed his eye directly against the narrow gap in the wood.
The tiny space showed a hollow area behind the frame that should not have existed at all.
A faint beam of yellow light was shining inside the dark space behind the drywall.
Mark held his breath as his mind raced to figure out what was actually happening.
He leaned closer until his eyelashes scraped against the painted edge of the white molding.
He saw a small desk positioned inside a narrow room hidden completely behind the main hallway.
A woman was sitting on a metal stool with her back turned toward the hidden opening.
Mark felt a cold chill run down his spine as he recognized her shoulder-length blonde hair.
It was his wife Sarah sitting in a tiny room he never knew existed inside their house.
