Chapter 3 of 5

A Bitter Uncle Tripped My Daughter At Our Family Gathering

Secrets Beneath The Grand Floor

Evelyn carried Lily into the private study down the long eastern corridor, locking the heavy mahogany door behind them. She sat Lily down on a soft leather sofa, wiping the tears from her daughter's pale cheeks. The little girl's knee was swollen and red, but thankfully no bones were broken from the fall. Evelyn grabbed a clean handkerchief from the desk, dampening it with cold water from the private wet bar. She tenderly cleaned the small scrape on Lily's skin, humming a comforting song to soothe her fears. Out in the main hall, the muffled sounds of heated shouting could still be heard through the thick walls. Grandma Rose tapped gently on the study door before unlocking it with her spare brass key. She stepped inside, her face showing the heavy burden of years of family secrets and corporate greed. Rose locked the door behind her, pulling a small silver key from inside her dress pocket. She walked over to the desk, sliding aside the framed USA flag painting to reveal a hidden safe.

Grandma Rose: I should have stopped him years ago, Evelyn. Your father warned me about his greed.

Evelyn: He pushed a seven-year-old child, Rose. He has completely crossed the line this time.

Grandma Rose: He thinks he owns everything because your father's main will disappeared last year.

Evelyn: You know where the real documents are, don't you?

Grandma Rose: Your father gave me this key the night before he went into the hospital.

Rose turned the small silver key inside the hidden safe, pulling out a thick manila folder. Inside were signed legal papers bearing the official seal of the state probate court and bank records. Evelyn walked over, her hands trembling as she opened the folder to examine the official documents inside. The papers clearly showed that their father had placed the entire mansion into a private trust for Lily. Furthermore, bank statements proved Julian had embezzled millions from the family business to cover his personal gambling debts. He had been desperate to keep Evelyn away from the estate so she wouldn't discover the missing funds. The assault on Lily in the grand hall was just his blind fear overflowing into physical violence. Evelyn felt a surge of cold determination wash over her as she held the evidence in her hands.

Evelyn: This is enough to strip him of his executive position and file criminal charges immediately.

Grandma Rose: Use it, my dear. Save this family from his destruction before it is too late.

Evelyn: He thought he could bully us because we didn't have money for expensive lawyers.

Grandma Rose: Your father prepared for this. The family estate lawyer is on his way right now.

Evelyn: I am going back out there. He needs to face what he did in front of everyone.

Lily looked up from the couch, her small voice cutting through the heavy emotional quiet of the room. She held out her tiny hand, reaching for her mother's fingers with a brave smile on her face. Evelyn took her daughter's hand, feeling a sense of ultimate strength she had never experienced in her life. They were no longer the forgotten relatives standing in the shadow of Julian's wealth and fake power. With the original trust documents secured, Evelyn was ready to reclaim what belonged to her innocent child. She tucked the thick folder under her arm and headed back toward the double doors of the study.
