Chapter 4 of 6
The Maid Saved The Heir From His Cruel Stepmother
A Midnight Race Against Time
The mansion grew dark and silent as midnight arrived later that night.
Clara lay awake in her small staff room on the lower floor.
She could not sleep knowing what was hidden in the security computer system.
She pulled on her comfortable shoes and tiptoed quietly into the hallway.
complete silence hung over the giant house, except for the ticking clock.
Clara moved like a shadow toward the locked master office room upstairs.
She knew where the spare emergency key was hidden near the hallway vase.
She reached into the decorative ceramic urn and pulled out the small brass key.
Clara inserted the key into the office lock and turned it carefully.
The door opened with a soft click, and she stepped inside the dark room.
The large computer monitor sat on the heavy wooden executive desk space.
Clara pressed the power button, and the screen lit up the room.
She navigated quickly through the security software folder to find the nursery folder.
She selected the morning timestamp from when Victoria had stormed into the room.
Clara clicked play, and the video footage began playing clearly on screen.
The camera had caught every single second of the terrifying encounter clearly.
It showed Victoria yelling angrily and throwing the baby into the air.
It showed Clara sliding across the floor to catch Leo safely in time.
Tears of relief swelled in Clara's eyes as she watched the video clip.
This visual evidence was absolute proof of Victoria's cruelty and legal negligence.
Clara inserted a portable USB memory drive into the side computer port.
She began copying the security video file directly onto her memory drive.
A progress bar filled up slowly: fifty percent, seventy percent, eighty percent.
Suddenly, the bright overhead lights in the office snapped on without warning.
Victoria: What do you think you are doing in my husband's office?
Clara jumped in surprise and quickly pulled the USB drive from the computer.
Victoria stood in the doorway, wearing a satin robe and a furious glare.
Victoria: You are stealing company files from this computer!
Clara: I am saving proof of how you treated baby Leo today!
Victoria's eyes darted to the computer screen, which was still displaying the footage.
Her face went completely pale as she realized what was stored there.
Victoria: Give me that flash drive right now, Clara!
Clara: Never! This is going straight to Mr. Sterling and the police!
Victoria rushed forward, extending her arms to grab the drive from Clara.
Clara dodged past the desk, clutching the drive tightly inside her hand.
Victoria: You will not ruin my life over a worthless child!
Clara: You ruined your own life the moment you tried to hurt him!
Clara ran out of the office and sprinted down the long marble hallway.
Victoria chased after her, screaming angry threats into the quiet night air.
Clara reached her bedroom, stepped inside quickly, and locked the solid door.
Victoria slammed her fists against the wooden door from the outside corridor.
Victoria: Open this door, Clara, or I will call the police on you!
Clara: Go ahead and call them, because I have all the evidence right here!
Clara sat on her bed, holding the drive tightly against her trembling chest.
She knew Mr. Sterling would arrive home early tomorrow morning.
All she had to do was survive the night and protect the truth.
