Chapter 3 of 6
The Maid Saved The Heir From His Cruel Stepmother
Uncovering The Evil Scheme
Clara carried Leo into the warm kitchen near the back of the mansion.
She placed the baby safely in his high chair and prepared a bottle.
Her hands were still shaking from the terrifying encounter in the nursery upstairs.
Chef Thomas was busy preparing lunch near the large stainless steel counter space.
He looked up and saw the deep concern written across Clara's pale face.
Thomas: Is everything alright up there, Clara?
Clara: Victoria lost her temper with little Leo again today.
Thomas: She has been acting very strange ever since Richard left town.
Clara: It is getting much worse, Thomas. She almost hurt him today.
Thomas put down his knife and walked over to the kitchen counter space.
He lowered his voice so no one else in the hallway could hear.
Thomas: I heard her talking on the phone in the study last night.
Clara: What was she talking about, Thomas?
Thomas: She was talking to a high-priced divorce lawyer about legal custody.
Thomas: She asked if she would get the trust fund if something happened to Leo.
Clara felt a cold shudder run all the way down her spine.
The dark reality of Victoria's intentions became terrifyingly clear to her now.
Leo was the sole heir to his mother's massive multi-million dollar inheritance fund.
If anything happened to the child, the money would transfer to Richard and Victoria.
Victoria wanted the fortune for herself and was willing to do terrible things.
Clara: We cannot let her stay near this baby alone anymore.
Thomas: But Richard returns from his business trip tomorrow afternoon.
Clara: Tomorrow might be too late if she tries something else today.
Suddenly, the kitchen door swung open with a loud, heavy push.
Victoria stepped inside the kitchen, wearing a fake, polite smile on her face.
She was holding a small glass bottle filled with a clear liquid inside.
Victoria: Clara, I came to help you with baby Leo's afternoon milk.
Clara: I have already prepared his bottle, Mrs. Sterling.
Victoria: Add a few drops of these vitamins to his milk cup.
Victoria: The doctor said it will help him sleep much better today.
Clara looked closely at the glass bottle Victoria was holding out to her.
There was no medical label or pharmacy prescription printed on the glass bottle.
Clara remembered that the family doctor had visited just two days ago.
The doctor had specifically said Leo was completely healthy and needed no medicine.
Clara reached out slowly and took the bottle from Victoria's hand.
Clara: I will make sure he gets what he needs, Mrs. Sterling.
Victoria: Make sure he drinks all of it before his long nap.
Victoria smiled coldly, turned around, and walked back out of the room.
As soon as the door closed, Clara looked at Thomas with deep alarm.
Clara: This is not vitamin medicine, Thomas.
Thomas: Do not feed that to the baby under any circumstances!
Clara: I am going to save this liquid for the police to inspect.
Clara carefully slipped the small glass bottle inside her deep apron pocket.
She knew she was walking a dangerous line inside this wealthy home.
She needed to get the security camera footage before Victoria realized it existed.
The recording system was stored in the master office down the hall.
Clara had to find a way to enter that room without getting caught.
