Chapter 3 of 6

My Groom Stole My Heirloom Right Before Our Wedding

The Evidence On Display

Detective Walsh reached inside the inner chest pocket of Julian's velvet jacket, ignoring the groom's loud protests and curses. His hand emerged carrying a thick, heavy gold chain attached to a large, sparkling pendant that caught the bright afternoon light. The multi-carat antique diamond medallion spun slowly in the air, throwing sharp flashes of rainbow light across the hardwood floor and white walls.

Detective Walsh: Found the missing family heirloom.

A collective gasp echoed across the vast ballroom as every eye focused on the priceless necklace dangling from the detective's fingers. Clara's breath caught in her throat, her hand flying up to cover her mouth in utter horror. The Sterling diamond medallion was her family's most prized possession, kept inside a high-security vault that only three people had access to. It was valued at over five million dollars and carried three generations of history.

Clara: You... you were using me all along?!

Julian: Clara, listen to me! I can explain everything! He planted that on me!

Detective Walsh: Save it for the judge, Mr. Vance. We have you on video footage taking it from the library vault an hour ago.

Clara: How could you do this to me? To my father?

Julian: It is not what it looks like, Clara! I was just holding it for safe keeping!

Detective Walsh: Safe keeping? With a fake passport and a one-way ticket to Zurich in your leather briefcase?

Julian fell silent, his arrogant composure instantly evaporating into thin air as the undeniable truth hung exposed before everyone. His face went pale, small beads of sweat forming along his hairline despite the cool air conditioning inside the grand hall. The surrounding guests, who had praised him just moments ago, were now staring at him with looks of disgust and fiery anger. Clara took two steps backward, feeling like the ground beneath her feet was dissolving completely.

She looked at the man she had promised her life to, searching his eyes for any sign of the kind, caring partner she thought she knew. But all she saw was a cold, calculating stranger whose entire persona had been a lie designed to strip her family of their wealth. The brass key Detective Walsh pulled next from Julian's pocket confirmed her worst fears, matching the unique pattern of her father's safe.

Detective Walsh: Turn around and place your hands behind your back, Mr. Vance.

Julian: Clara, please! Look at me! You know I love you!

Clara: Do not speak my name ever again.

The sound of metallic cuffs clicking tightly around Julian's wrists cut through the heavy silence of the room like a thunderclap. Julian winced as the cold steel bit into his skin, his previous posture completely ruined as the detective pulled his arms behind him. Clara turned her head away, tears finally spilling over her cheeks and falling onto her white silk gown.
