Chapter 3 of 6

His Bride Claimed She Was Framed Until A Silver Bracelet Exposed Her Secret

The Bracelet Exposed

Mark stepped back from the door and looked down at Chloe's hands.

Her fingers were trembling slightly against her white bridal dress.

Around her left wrist was a thin silver charm bracelet with small charms.

Mark recognized one specific hanging charm shaped like a silver oak leaf.

That exact charm was custom-made for his late wife on their fifth anniversary.

It was kept inside the exact same velvet pouch as the pearl necklace.

Mark: Where did you get that silver leaf charm on your wrist?

Chloe quickly pulled her lace sleeve down to cover her arm.

Chloe: I bought this bracelet at a local boutique three weeks ago!

Mark: My late wife had that exact leaf custom engraved on the back.

Mark reached out firmly and took hold of Chloe's hand.

He turned the small silver charm over to inspect the flat metal back.

The tiny initials of his late wife were clearly visible near the edge.

Mark: Then why was this on your bracelet right now?!

Chloe gasped loudly and pulled her hand back toward her chest.

She stepped back against the wall with her mouth slightly open in shock.

Chloe: I... I found it on the floor near the vanity table earlier!

Mark: You told me a minute ago that you bought it at a shop!

From under the gap beneath the closet door, a small hand appeared.

Lily pushed a long strand of shimmering white pearls through the bottom gap.

Lily: She took Mommy's pearls too, Daddy.

Lily: She put them in her dress pocket before she locked the door.

Mark stared down at the pearl necklace lying on the hardwood floor.

A surge of absolute anger filled his chest as he stepped forward.

Mark: Chloe, who is in there with you, and what else did you take?!

Chloe: Mark, please listen to me for one second!

Mark: Do not tell me another lie today!

Mark pointed a stern finger directly at her pale face.

Mark: You locked my innocent child in a dark room for personal greed!

Chloe backed further down the hallway, looking frantic and caught.

Chloe: I was just trying to secure our financial future together!

Mark: By stealing my family heirlooms and traumatizing my child?!

He grabbed a heavy metal paperweight from a nearby hallway table.

He used the flat edge to strike the brass latch on the closet door.

The old lock mechanism gave way with a sharp metallic snap sound.

The door swung open, and little Lily ran straight into his arms.
