Chapter 4 of 6
A Snobbish Employee Slapped The Secret Owner Of The Store
The Cost Of Arrogance
Chloe gasped for air, her mind racing as she tried to think of any excuse to save herself from immediate ruin. She remembered all the times she had insulted ordinary-looking shoppers over the past year, thinking she was completely safe behind her counter. Now, her terrible behavior had finally caught up with her in the worst possible way imaginable. She dropped her hands to her sides and began to shake violently with embarrassment and sheer terror.
Chloe: Mrs. Sterling, please forgive me! I didn't know it was you! I would have treated you like royalty if I knew!
Maya: That is the exact problem with you, Chloe. You only treat people well if you think they have money or power.
Chloe: Please! I have a car payment and rent to pay! Don't ruin my life over one mistake!
Marcus: It wasn't a mistake. It was a physical assault and a demonstration of your terrible character.
Marcus reached into his pocket and pulled out his cell phone, hitting a speed-dial button without taking his stern eyes off Chloe. Within two seconds, the line connected, and the deep voice of Arthur, the regional manager, came through the speaker loud and clear. Marcus put the phone on speaker mode so everyone in the boutique could hear every word of the conversation.
Arthur: Good morning, Mr. Sterling. Is everything going well with your fitting today?
Marcus: Arthur, I am standing in the Fifth Avenue location right now with my wife, Maya.
Arthur: Wonderful, sir! Is the team taking good care of Mrs. Sterling?
Marcus: An employee named Chloe just slapped my wife across the face and tried to kick her out for wearing plain clothes.
Arthur: What?! That is completely unacceptable! I am termination her contract immediately, effective right this second!
