Chapter 1 of 6
A Snobbish Employee Slapped The Secret Owner Of The Store
The Rude Worker At Dawn
The morning light hit the glass windows of the high-end bridal shop on Fifth Avenue. Chloe stood behind the counter with a sharp, fake smile on her face as she checked her glossy nails. She loved working at Victoria Bridal because it made her feel superior to the regular people who walked by on the street outside. Today was supposed to be a quiet Tuesday, but Chloe was always looking for a reason to exert her power over anyone she deemed unworthy of entering the shop.
Maya walked into the store wearing a simple denim jacket, plain black leggings, and comfortable sneakers after a long morning of errands. Her dark hair was pulled back into a messy bun, and she carried a plain canvas grocery bag over her shoulder. She was searching for a silk gown for an upcoming vows renewal ceremony, but she wanted to look around quietly without making a big fuss. As she stepped over the thick velvet rug near the entrance, Chloe looked up and immediately sneered with total disgust at her plain clothing.
Chloe: Can I help you with something, or are you just lost?
Maya: I am just browsing the wedding dresses for a few minutes, thank you.
Chloe: The discount shops are three blocks down the street. This place is for serious buyers only.
Maya ignored the rude comment and kept walking toward the rack of imported Italian silk gowns. She gently touched the soft lace of a beautiful white dress that hung near the center display. Chloe watched her from across the room, her anger rising because she believed Maya was leaving smudges on the expensive fabric. She marched over on her high heels, her face twisting into a bitter glare as she closed the distance between them quickly.
Chloe: Did you not hear me speaking to you?
Maya: I heard you fine, but I am allowed to look at the dresses.
Chloe: Girl, put that down right now. You clearly can't afford it.
Before Maya could even reply, Chloe reached out and violently slapped Maya's hand away from the hanger. The sound of the sharp slap echoed off the high marble walls of the quiet shop, making two other shoppers turn around in complete shock. Chloe grabbed the gown roughly, pulling it back onto the rack while glaring at Maya like she was dirt under her shoe. Maya gasped in pain, holding her stinging red cheek with her trembling hand as the sting of the blow burned into her skin.
Maya: Excuse me... you don't even know me or what I can afford.
Chloe: I know your type the second you step foot inside my store. Get out right now.
