Chapter 4 of 6

A Returning Soldier Uncovers Her Family Secret At Home

Calling For Reinforcements

Sarah held Lily tightly against her hip with her strong left arm.

She held her secure military phone high in her right hand firmly.

Mother: Get away from my daughter right now or face severe consequences!

Mark took another step, reaching out toward Lily's plush Santa bear.

Father: Give me that child right now, Sarah, she stays here!

Sarah dialed three familiar digits on her phone screen without looking down.

She pressed the green call button and set the speaker volume to maximum.

Mother: Call 911 right now and report an active child abuse incident!

The loud emergency dial tone echoed clearly across the silent living room.

Evelyn's eyes widened in sheer terror as she realized the massive danger.

Stepmother: Mark, stop her right now before the police dispatch answers!

Mark reached out frantically to slap the phone out of Sarah's grip.

Sarah pivoted her shoulder back quickly, maintaining absolute physical control of space.

The emergency dispatch operator's calm voice echoed loudly through the speaker frame.

Dispatch: 911 emergency services, what is your exact location and situation?

Mother: I am Captain Sarah Miller reporting domestic child abuse and assault.

Mark turned pale and took three panicked steps backward toward the kitchen island.

Father: Tell them it was just a misunderstanding between parents, Sarah!

Mother: My child has visible purple bruising from an assault by stepmother.

Evelyn began to cry frantic tears of self-pity as panic took over.

Stepmother: I am a respected suburban real estate agent, you cannot do this!

Dispatch: Patrol units are dispatched to your suburban Dallas address immediately.

Sarah kept her clear eyes locked onto Mark and Evelyn without flinching once.

Lily held onto her mother's uniform neck, feeling safe for the first time.

Little Girl: Mommy, will the nice police officers help us stay safe?

Mother: Yes, my brave little girl, nobody will ever hurt you again.

Mark frantically opened his smartphone to delete his saved text message threads.

Sarah noticed his fast fingers wiping digital evidence off his mobile device screen.

Mother: My military phone is already recording all cellular activity nearby.

Mark froze instantly as he realized his digital cover-up was totally useless.

The faint sound of police sirens echoed from several blocks down the avenue.

Stepmother: Mark, do something to fix this before they arrive here!

Father: There is nothing left I can do now, Evelyn, it is over.
