Chapter 3 of 6

A Bitter Betrayal Leaves a Young Mother Fighting for Justice

Surviving the Cold Plunge

The cold water rushed up to meet Clara as she plunged into the deep pool.

The loud splash reverberated off the high concrete walls of the grand inner court.

She sank down through the clear blue before fighting her way back to the surface.

Clara broken through the water gasping desperately for air while grabbing the floating rope.

Elena ran down the stone steps with tears streaming down her worried face.

Elena: Clara! Are you alright? Can you swim to the steps?

Clara kicked her legs weakly and moved toward the shallow end of the large pool.

Elena reached out her hand and pulled the soaking wet woman onto the smooth tile floor.

Clara lay on her side while coughing up water and clutching her stomach tight.

Clara: Is the baby okay? Please tell me the baby is safe!

Elena: Take slow breaths. The water broke your fall completely, thank God.

Julian and Evelyn walked down the patio steps with calm and calculated expressions.

Julian: You are fortunate that the pool was filled to the top today.

Clara: You cut the rope on purpose! You tried to get rid of me!

Julian: It was an unfortunate accident caused by your own sudden loss of balance.

Evelyn: No court will take the word of an unstable girl over our family.

Elena stood up quickly and placed herself between Clara and the wealthy owners.

Elena: I saw everything that happened on that balcony with my own eyes!

Julian: You are an employee here, Elena, and your job can end right now.

Elena: Then my employment ends today, because I will not lie for a monster.

Clara slowly pushed herself up from the wet tiles while leaning on Elena's arm.

Her body trembled from the shock, but a fierce new anger replaced her fear.

Clara: I am leaving this house right now, Julian.

Evelyn: If you step off this property, you will leave with absolutely nothing.

Clara: I would rather have nothing than stay another minute in this dangerous place.

Elena helped Clara walk toward the main gate as the sky turned dark above.

Julian watched them leave without making any attempt to stop them from going.

Julian: Let her go, Mother. She has no money and no power to fight us.

Evelyn: Make sure the security cameras around the balcony are cleared immediately.

Clara walked out onto the public road while holding onto her trusted friend.

She knew that surviving the fall was only the start of her long battle.
