Chapter 2 of 6

A Bitter Betrayal Leaves a Young Mother Fighting for Justice

A Dangerous Confrontation Begins

Late that afternoon, storm clouds began to gather over the distant hills behind the house.

Clara stood near the glass railing of the upper terrace while looking at the pool below.

She heard sharp footsteps approaching along the hardwood floor of the high balcony path.

Julian walked out with a severe look that Clara had never seen on his face before.

Julian: Why did you tell my mother about the baby before speaking to me first?

Clara: I was happy and wanted to share the good news with your family.

Julian: This complicates the trust fund distribution that we planned for next month.

Clara: How can our child be seen as a financial complication to you?

Julian stepped closer until he was standing right near the edge of the glass wall.

Julian: You do not understand how much money is at stake right now.

Clara: I do not care about the money, Julian!

Julian: Well, my mother and I care very much about protecting our family fortune.

Elena came out onto the lower balcony to water the potted hanging green plants.

She paused when she heard the harsh voices rising from the upper stone level.

Clara: You are choosing an inheritance over your own wife and unborn child?

Julian: You were never meant to stay in this family for very long.

Clara took a step backward in shock as his cruel words hung in the air.

Her heel caught the edge of a loose decorative rope attached to the sun canopy.

She stumbled over the low barrier and grabbed the thick woven cord in sheer panic.

The force of her weight pulled her right over the side of the upper railing.

Clara screamed as she swung upside down high above the deep swimming pool water.

Elena looked up from below and gasped in terror at the dangerous sight above.

Elena: Clara! Hold on with all your strength!

Elena rushed up the outer stairs to reach the balcony as fast as possible.

Clara struggled to keep her grip as the smooth rope strained under her weight.

Clara: Somebody help me! Please!

Evelyn walked out onto the upper deck with a completely calm and unbothered expression.

Elena reached the railing and tried desperately to pull the heavy rope upward.

Elena: Mr. Julian! Help me haul her back up before the knot slips!

Julian pulled a small pocket knife from his dark jacket pocket with steady hands.

Julian: Let her fall! Let her go right now!

Elena: No! She is carrying your child!

Julian did not hesitate as he opened the sharp metal blade with a click.

He sliced through the thick rope strands with one single hard push forward.

The line snapped instantly with a loud pop that echoed across the quiet courtyard.

Clara dropped fast through the air toward the bright blue water of the deep pool.
