Chapter 2 of 5

She Saw The Nanny Act Weird Beside The Baby

The Accusation In The Hall

Chloe remained on the marble floor while her hands trembled against the cold, smooth tile surface.

She looked up at Mark while trying to catch her breath after falling so hard.

Chloe: Mark, please just look at the pillow before you accuse me of something terrible!

Mark turned his head toward the couch while holding his jaw tight with extreme tension.

He saw the white pillow resting harmlessly on the fabric beside where the baby had been.

Mark: I saw what Martha saw with my own eyes!

Martha stepped closer to Mark while keeping the baby pressed tightly against her chest.

Martha: She was standing right over him with that heavy pillow lowered down!

Chloe: A wasp was landing right next to his tiny head on the cushion!

Martha scoffed loudly and turned her head away in absolute disbelief at the claim.

Martha: There are no insects inside this clean mansion, and you know that very well!

Mark rubbed his forehead while trying to manage the overwhelming rage inside his heart.

He loved his son more than anything else in the world after losing his wife.

The thought of anyone hurting his small child sent a cold shiver through his chest.

Mark: You were only hired two weeks ago to help with the estate legal paperwork.

Chloe: I am an assistant, not a criminal, and I would never harm a child!

Martha pulled out her mobile phone from her black apron pocket with a swift motion.

Martha: We need to call the police department right this second before she runs away!

Chloe: Call them, please, because the security cameras will prove I am telling the truth!

Mark suddenly froze when Chloe mentioned the camera system installed throughout the luxury home.

He remembered that high-definition security cameras monitored every single corner of the property.

The central recording system recorded video and audio constantly from the ceiling angles.

Mark: Martha, take the baby upstairs to the nursery right now and lock the door.

Martha hesitated for a second while looking suspiciously at Chloe still sitting on the floor.

Martha: Are you sure you want to be left alone in this room with her?

Mark: I can handle this situation while I check the security monitor in my office.

Martha turned around slowly and carried the crying infant up the grand winding staircase.

Chloe stood up slowly from the marble floor while wiping a tear from her cheek.

Chloe: Check the footage, Mark, and you will see who is really telling the truth.

Mark pointed toward his private office down the long wood-paneled hallway with stern authority.

Mark: Walk ahead of me and do not try to make any sudden moves.

The heavy silence in the grand hallway was thicker than any storm brewing outside today.
