Chapter 1 of 6
Groom Humiliated Her Father Until A Four Star General Arrived
The Wedding Day Disrespect Begins
The morning sun poured through the stained-glass windows of the country club ballroom, lighting up thousands of white roses. Emily stood in her satin wedding dress, staring at her groom, Mark, who was adjusting his designer tuxedo in front of two hundred wealthy guests. Everything about the wedding screamed money, from the crystal chandeliers to the champagne towers flowing in the corner. Mark's family owned one of the largest real estate companies in the state, and they never let anyone forget it. Emily had always known Mark was proud, but she believed he loved her for who she was, despite their different backgrounds.
Standing just off the main stage was Emily's father, Thomas, wearing his clean high-visibility work vest over a plain button-down shirt. Thomas had worked for thirty years maintaining the grounds of local parks and private estates, earning every dollar with honest sweat and sore muscles. He had refused to buy a fancy suit, telling Emily that he wanted to be himself on her big day, even if her new in-laws looked down on him. Mark's parents had already made several rude comments during the rehearsal dinner, treating Thomas like hired help rather than the father of the bride.
As the ceremony was about to begin, Mark took the microphone from the wedding planner, his face twisted in annoyance as he pointed directly at Thomas. The chatter in the ballroom died down instantly as guests turned their heads toward the stage.
Mark: Look at him standing there like he owns the place. I would never truly marry the daughter of a humble groundskeeper without everyone knowing the truth.
Emily: Mark, please stop this right now! What are you doing?
Mark: I am setting the record straight, Emily. My family has a reputation to uphold in this city.
Emily: He is my father! He raised me with honor and hard work!
Mark: Honor does not pay for a million-dollar house or put you on the board of directors.
Thomas: Emily, do not fight with him on your wedding day. It is fine.
Emily: It is not fine, Dad! He cannot talk to you like that!
Mark: He is nothing more than a lawnmower driver in a cheap bright vest.
Emily felt her eyes fill with hot tears as the crowd began whispering among themselves. She looked at Mark's parents, who were sitting in the front row, smirking and nodding in agreement with their son. The humiliation was heavy in the room, suffocating every bit of joy Emily had felt just minutes earlier. Thomas walked up the steps toward the stage, his hands rough and calloused, trying to comfort his daughter despite the cruel words thrown at him.
Thomas: I am so sorry, sweetheart... I should have worn a suit like they asked.
Emily: You do not have to apologize for anything, Dad. You are the best man I know.
Mark: Get your filthy hands off her right now!
Before anyone could react, Mark stepped forward with a fierce glare and raised his hand, slapping Thomas hard across the face. The sharp sound echoed through the high ceilings of the ballroom, followed by horrified gasps from the guests in the front rows. Thomas stumbled backward, holding his red cheek, while Emily screamed in terror and grabbed her father's arm. Mark stood over them, his jaw clenched, showing no regret for what he had just done in front of everyone.
