Chapter 4 of 6

A Wealthy Woman Mistreated A Chef Until Her Secret Surfaced

A Mother's Final Reckoning

By three o'clock in the afternoon, a formal meeting was scheduled at the law offices of Jenkins & Associates in downtown Oakridge. Richard and Victoria arrived early, sitting nervously in the glass-walled conference room while their lawyer shuffled through papers. When Clara walked in, she was no longer wearing her white chef coat or her apron. She wore a fitted navy blue suit, her hair pulled back neatly, walking with absolute confidence as she took her seat at the head of the table. Leo sat quietly in the lobby outside, playing video games under the watchful eye of the receptionist.

Richard: Clara, look... we don't need to make this a public war. We are family, after all.

Clara: Family? You threw me out of my father's house three weeks after he died, Richard.

Victoria: We offered you a fair living allowance back then! You were the one who chose to leave!

Clara: You offered me fifty thousand dollars to sign away my rights while I was grieving my father. That was not an offer, Victoria. That was theft.

Richard: We are willing to give you five million dollars today, cash, if you sign the waiver and let us continue managing the estate.

Clara looked at Richard, then slowly turned her eyes to Victoria, who was sitting with her arms crossed, still refusing to meet Clara's direct gaze. Clara took a deep breath, reaching into her briefcase to pull out a single sheet of paper that Sarah had prepared earlier that afternoon.

Clara: Five million dollars won't cover the harm you tried to do to my son yesterday.

Victoria: The boy was fine! Stop making a huge deal out of a minor incident!

Clara: You grabbed a small child by his collar because he stumbled near your expensive dress. You showed everyone in this town who you truly are when you think you have power.

Richard: Please, Clara! Tell us what you want! What is your condition?

Clara: My condition is simple. You will resign from the board of directors by five o'clock today, Richard. And Victoria will issue a public written apology to Leo on the front page of the town newspaper.

Victoria: I will never apologize to a child in public! That is completely absurd!

Clara: Then at five-fifteen, my lawyer files the court order to freeze all Sterling Enterprises assets nationwide.

Richard turned on his wife, his face flushed with extreme panic as he realized Clara was not bluffing in the slightest. The quiet chef they had pushed aside ten years ago was now standing over them with total legal authority, and every option they thought they had was vanishing before their eyes.
